सुवर्ण म्हणजे सोने. प्राशन करणे म्हणजे पिणे अथवा पाजणे. सुवर्ण प्राशनाचा अंतर्भाव लेहन या प्रकारात होतो. लेहन म्हणजे चाटवणे. काश्यपसंहितेनुसार लेह बनविण्यासाठी पूर्व दिशेला तोंड करावे आणि धुतलेल्या दगडावर थोड्या पाण्याच्या साहाय्याने सोन्याला उगाळावे. तयार झालेल्या चाटणात मध आणि गाईचे तूप मिसळून ते बालकाला चाटवावे. यात मध आणि गाईचे तूप यांचे प्रमाण एकसारखे असू नये याची काळजी घेण्यास सांगितले आहे. साधारणत: दर महिन्यात येणाऱ्या पुष्य नक्षत्राच्या दिवशी सुवर्णप्राशन केले जाते. जन्मापासून १२ वर्षांपर्यंत बालकास सुवर्णप्राशन करवावे अशी प्रथा आहे.

सुवर्णप्राशन केल्याने बालकाची बुद्धी वाढते, त्याला चांगली भुक लागते, त्याची शारीरिक शक्ती वाढते, शरीराची कांती वाढते आणि लहान मुलांमध्ये रोगप्रतिकारक्षमता वाढून त्यांचे अनेक रोगांपासून संरक्षण होते, असे महर्षी काश्यप म्हणतात. हे सुवर्णप्राशन बालकांसाठी मंगलकारक आणि पुण्यकारक आहे. सुवर्णप्राशन नियमितपणे १ महिना केल्यास बालक बुद्धीमान आणि निरोगी होते. तसेच ६ महिने नियमितपणे केल्यास त्याची स्मरणशक्ती अत्यंत तीव्र होते असेही ते म्हणतात.
