What is better - weight loss or fat loss?
While weight loss usually refers to the overall reduction in body weight (comprising of water, muscle & fat), fat loss is the overall reduction of body fat (subcutaneous & visceral).
Weight loss fluctuates depending on a number of factors i.e hormonal imbalance, carb and salt intake.
Although it may be motivating to see kgs drop on the scale, but it may not necessarily mean healthy. It is possible you might be losing muscle - the most metabolically active tissue in your body. This coupled along with bad nutrition and no exercise is a recipe for slow metabolism, which can put brakes on achieving your health goals. Hence weight loss is not a good indicator to gauge health.
On the other hand, when you aim for fat loss - with correct nutrition and resistance training, you build muscle, and lose inches in the process. Our clothes then fit better and our body is in a metabolically active mode, to achieve our health goals. Hence fat loss is a better indicator of overall health.
