Vijayadasami🙏

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra. The name is derived from the Sanskrit words dasha (“ten”) and hara ( "defeat”). Symbolising the victory of good over evil.

Vijayadashami reveres Durga's and Rama's(an avatar of Vishnu), victory over evil.

It is a 10-day festival, starting with nine nights called Navaratri and the last day being Vijayadashami.

Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma.

In the northern, central and western states, the festival is synonymously called Dasara (also spelled Dussehra, Dashahara). In these regions, it marks the end of Ramlila and remembers god Rama's victory over Ravana.

Alternatively, it marks a reverence for one of the aspects of goddess Devi, such as Durga or Saraswati.

Vijayadashami celebrations include processions to a river or ocean front that involve carrying clay statues of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartikeya, accompanied by music and chants, after which the images are immersed in the water for dissolution and farewell.

Elsewhere, on Dasara, towering effigies of Ravana, symbolising evil, are burnt with fireworks, marking evil's destruction.

The festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the important festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.

May this be a day of victory for you.

Maha Navami,Maa Siddhidatri 🙏
Day 9

9th form of Goddess Durga

The word Siddhi means supernatural power (Siddhis) or meditative ability and Dhatri means giver or awarder. Hence, it is believed that Maa Siddhidatri fulfils all divine aspirations. Maa Siddhidatri is known to be the giver of perfection.

Siddhidatri Maa is the original form of Goddess Parvati. She is seen draped in a red saree, sitting on a lotus flower which is completely bloomed while her procession is a lion. She has four hands. In her lower left hand, she holds a lotus flower while a Shankha is in the upper left hand. She has the Chakra in the upper right hand while a bludgeon (Gada) is in the lower right hand. Cladded with ornaments and a beautiful fresh flower garland around her neck. She looks extremely divine and beautiful.

Another name of Maa Siddhidatri is Goddess Lakshmi, who represents wealth, happiness, and success. You can appease all the eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi and bring wealth & prosperity to your life with Lakshmi Puja.
According to Hindu mythology, the legend says that Lord Shiva worshipped Goddess Maha Shakti to get all the Siddhis as blessings. With the gratitude of Goddess Siddhidatri, Lord Shiva attains the half body of Goddess Shakti which is why Lord Shiva is also known as “Ardhanarishvara”.

Maa Siddhidatri is believed to have blessed the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahadev with eight of the ultimate divine powers, called Siddhis. She bestowed them with eight of the siddhis namely:
Anima: Reducing one’s size to as small as an atom
Mahima: Expanding one’s body to an infinitely large size
Garima: Becoming infinitely heavy
Laghima: Becoming infinitely light
Prapti: Being omnipresent
Prakambya: Achieving whatever one desires
Ish*tva: Lordship

Planet ketu is ruled by Goddess Siddhidatri. She rules the mind of her devotees and offers motivation to lead a disciplined life that is spiritually elevated.

Maa Mahagauri 🙏 Maha Ashtami
Day 8

Eighth form of Goddess Durga

The word Maha means great and the word Gauri means radiant or fair, hence the name Mahagauri

Maa Mahagauri is considered to be the most beautiful avatar of Navdurga and is known for prosperity, health, and wealth. She has the power to fulfill all the deepest desires of her devotees. She is compassionate, caring. It is also believed that Maa Mahagauri gives relief from all kinds of pain and suffering.

She is a four-armed deity Devi Mahagauri who rides on a bull or a white elephant and carries a Trishul and a damru in her hands. Maa Mahagauri is also known as Shwetambardhara, as she always wears white clothes. She symbolises purity, serenity, and tranquillity.

There’s an interesting story that tells how Goddess Mahagauri got her name. It is believed that Goddess Shailputri, who did hard penance (tapasya) to win over and marry Lord Shiva, became Goddess Parvati after she tied the knot with Mahadev. But because of years of severe penance, the skin of Goddess Parvati had turned dull and black. Impressed by what the Goddess had gone through and the sacrifices she made to marry him, Lord Shiva washed her with Ganga water, her skin turned white, and she began glowing like a pearl. Because of this reformation, Goddess Parvati was named Mahagauri.

On the day of Ashtami, many major rituals like Kanya Puja, Sandhi Puja, and Shodashopachar Puja are performed.

Kanya Pujan, also known as Kanjak or Kumari Puja is the most important part of Maha Ashtami, where devotees invite nine young girls and one boy at their home where they offer them food, gifts and worship them. With all love and devotion, the kids are fed halwa, puri, and Chana (black chickpeas), the same bhog which was made for the Goddess.
