World No To***co Day 2025 is celebrated on May 31st, with the theme "Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on To***co and Ni****ne Products" or alternatively "Bright products. Dark intentions".
This year's campaign aims to reveal the strategies employed by the to***co and ni****ne industries to make their harmful products enticing, particularly to young people.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is leading the charge to raise awareness about the manipulative tactics used by these industries, such as ³:
- *Manipulative Product Designs*: Adding flavors and agents to change the smell, taste, or appearance of to***co products
- *Glamorized Marketing*: Using sleek designs, attractive colors, and alluring flavors to attract a younger demographic
- *Deceptive Designs*: Mimicking sweets, candies, or cartoon characters to appeal to children
Some alarming statistics highlighted by the WHO include
- *37 million children* aged 13-15 years worldwide use to***co
- *16,000 unique flavors* are available for ni****ne and to***co products
- *9 out of 10 e-cigarette users* are drawn to flavored products
The campaign urges governments, stakeholders, and communities to work together to:
- *Ban To***co Product Flavors* and attractive designs
- *Implement Graphic Health Warnings* on packaging
- *Restrict Advertising and Promotion*
- *Increase Taxes* on to***co products
