Ayurveda For Piles
Piles or haemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen collection of tissues and veins in the a**l area.
In Ayurveda, piles are referred to as ‘arsh’ which means enemy, implying that this disease is as harmful as an ‘enemy’ if left untreated.
Causes
According to Ayurveda, Piles occur when vaat, pitt, kapha get ‘prakupit’ or provoked due to factors like –
1. Excessive intake of spicy and oily food.
2. Sedentary lifestyle
3. Lack of exercise
4. Sitting in same position for long hours.
5. Indigestion
6. Constipation
Treatment
*Piles can be fully treated through Ayurveda. Some of the important herbs which are used in the treatment are- Neem (Azadirachta Indica), Jamun(Eugenia Jambolana), Kiker(Acacia Arabica), Chhoti Harade(Terminalia Chebula), Nagkeshar (Mesua Ferrea).
*These herbs possess anti-inflammatory properties and prevent gastro-intestinal diseases.
*Herbs like jamun can control bleeding, Harad works on the digestive system and other herbs improve appetite and thus help in ‘deepan’ and ‘paachan’ .
*Thus, Piles can be cured by maintaining the balance of the three doshas in our body .
* Re-occurrence of haemmorieds can be treated using a unique combination of the above mentioned herbs.
* Healthy dietary habits (fibre rich diet) and a good amount of daily exercise can help in curing this disease completely.

Benefits of Triphala

Triphala is a combination of three herbs- Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amalaki.
In Ayurveda, it is a rasayana and helps in balance of three doshas - Kapha, Vitta and Pitta.

Triphala is an anti - oxidant and is rich in Vitamin C and thus helps in building immunity. It possesses a mild laxative property and helps in providing relief from constipation.
It also helps in improving eye health due to its anti-oxidant properties.

The three components of Triphala are beneficial in the following ways-
1. Harad - It helps in curing skin diseases, diabetes, leukoderma and asthma.
2. Baheda - It treats anorexia, vomiting, piles, diarrhoea and arthritis.
3. Amla - It helps in curing jaundice and menorrhagia.
Besides this, Triphala also aids in weight loss as it helps in cleansing and detoxifying the internal systems of the body.
Triphala can be consumed in powder form, as a juice or can be topically applied as a paste on scalp to control hair fall.

Ayurveda and Ritucharya

According to Ayurveda we can divide a year into two parts- Uttarayana ( cold months – sharad , hemanta, shishira) and dakshinayana (warm months -vasant, grishma, varsha).
Each season has a different impact on our body.
Ritucharya is an Ayurvedic practice comprising of two words ‘ritu’ and ‘charya’. Ritu means season and charya means regime or guidelines. Ritucharya is important to maintain the basic principles of Ayurveda.
Grishma Ritucharya lasts from mid-May to mid-July.

Aahara in grishma ritu-

1. Diluted home- made syrups of rose, mango, lemon and grapes can be taken.

2. Panaka (prepared from fresh fruits like mango, pomegranate, watermelon, pineapple by adding jaggery and water).

3. Mantha (prepared from soaking resins, fig and dates in cold water for an hour and then churning it.)

4. Coconut water

5. Gulkand with milk

6. Almond Milk

7. Boiled Rice

8. Buttermilk

Knowledge of Ritucharya is very important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and prevention of many diseases.

Ayurveda for good sleep

In Ayurveda, aahar, nidra and brahmacharya are the three sub pillars of life (Trayopastumbha). Nidra comes under unsurpassable urge.
Proper nidra helps in dhatu Pushti (growth and development of body) and boosts the immune system (ojha).

Improper sleep leads to imbalance of doshas in body which in turn results in

- Poor memory
- Lower retention power
- Slow recall
- Anxiety
- Memory loss
- Lack of concentration
- Irritability

Ayurvedic medicines and herbs help in reducing stress and anxiety by calming the mind and facilitating good sleep. One such herb is Brahmi.

- Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri) contains powerful anti-oxidants which help in sharpening our memory. It enhances our brain functioning and also possesses anti- inflammatory properties. It acts on symptoms like impulsivity, hyper activity and inattentiveness. It also helps in reducing the cortisol levels and relieving stress and anxiety.

-Brahmi can be consumed in powder form with milk or as Brahmi ghee.

- Brahmi oil can be used for head massage.

3 foods for healthy sleep

1. Almonds and Walnuts- These nuts are source of sleep regulating hormones.
2. White Rice- It has high glycemic index which facilitates good sleep.
3. Turmeric Milk- It is an anti- inflammatory super food which helps in reducing anxiety.

Ayurveda for Immunity

Immunity or ojas is the invisible essence of our body which keeps us healthy. Each body has a unique constitution or prakriti determined by tridoshas- vaat, pitt and kapha. Imbalance in these doshas effects our immune system or ojh.
Below are the three immunity boosting herbs of Ayurveda-
- Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) or Indian gooseberry is rich in Vitamin C. A rasayana in Ayurveda, it possesses anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties which help in the healthy functioning of cells. It helps in balancing doshas and keeps the hair and skin healthy. It can be consumed either as juice or powder form.

- Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia) is a strong immunity boosting herb which possesses anti- inflammatory, anti- pyretic and anti – oxidant properties. It helps in improving digestion and reducing stress and anxiety levels. It can be consumed either as juice or kadha.

- Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) is an ancient medicinal herb which possesses multiple health benefits. It helps in reducing stress hormonal level (cortisol). It also helps in reducing blood sugar level. It provides strength to the body and helps in improving memory function.
