🦵 Knee Mobilization Techniques for Pain & Stiffness
Objective:
To improve joint mobility, reduce pain, and increase range of motion in stiff or painful knees (common in osteoarthritis, post-injury, or post-surgery cases).
---
🔹 1. Patellar Mobilization
Types: Superior, inferior, medial, lateral glide
Purpose: Reduces post-operative stiffness, improves knee extension/flexion
Indicated in: Post ACL surgery, patellofemoral pain
---
🔹 2. Tibiofemoral Joint Mobilization
Anterior Glide: Improves knee extension
Posterior Glide: Improves knee flexion
Technique: Patient supine or prone; apply graded mobilization
---
🔹 3. Passive Range of Motion (PROM)
Gentle manual bending/straightening of the knee
Used in early rehab to prevent joint contracture
---
🔹 4. Mulligan's Mobilization with Movement (MWM)
Combines accessory glide + active movement
Example: Medial glide during active flexion
Useful in chronic knee pain and stiffness
---
🔹 5. Soft Tissue Mobilization
Around quadriceps, hamstring, IT band
Reduces muscle tension and improves movement
---
⚠️ Contraindications:
Acute inflammation
Fractures
Severe osteoporosis or infection
---
✅ Always follow mobilization with strengthening and functional exercises for long-term results.
