Pope Francis was one of the most loved persons of our times. He was caring, compassionate and loving towards all and had a special affinity for the poor, the underprivileged and the marginalized. I had the honour of meeting and discussion with him at Vatican as the Secretary General of WPA on 14th March 2014.
Pope Francis extended support to us in the efforts to prevent suicides, alcoholism and drug abuse and to ensure social well-being. He spoke about the power of prayer which ensures changes in the mindset of the people and bring solace to the suffering and disadvantaged. The person, family and society would be blessed with peace through prayer. May his memory live forever.

Obituary: *Dr George Jacob* (1930-2024). He was my dearest teacher, professor and mentor. I came to know him closely soon after we joined Medical College Kottayam in 1971 through the tutorial system, which was prevalent in our college at that time. He was the professor of cardiology and a towering figure in the academic and public life of Kottayam and Central Travancore. More than that, he was a kind and loving teacher to his students, and a compassionate and caring doctor for his patients. I was one of the few who opted for two weeks of internship in cardiology. There were no PG courses in Kottayam medical College at that time and an internship in cardiology was akin to a prison sentence. I spent 24 hours in the ward for two weeks as he wanted me to do. Looking back, it was the best learning experience in my life! It was he who had inspired me to take up Psychiatry, which was a nascent branch in 1977, with a letter of recommendation to join Malankara Medical Mission Hospital (now medical College), Kolencherry as a senior house surgeon. Later I did DPM (Madurai) and MD Psychiatry (PGI Chandigarh) visiting him whenever I came home on vacation. In 2009, when I was professor and head of Psychiatry at Kottayam medical College, I had the privilege of honouring him and telling our students how a model teacher should be! Today I have visited his home and paid our last respects to him. RIP.πŸ™
People like Dr George Jacob never die, they will always live in our hearts! πŸ™
