केश विकारांवरील पथ्य: -
१.रोज रात्री झोपताना एक ग्लास दूधात एक चमचा तूप मिसळून प्यावे.
२.कोणत्याही प्रकारची उत्पादने वापरु नये किंवा त्या करीता डाँक्टरांचा सल्ला घेणे.

FOOD IS MEDICINE

Food when consumed rightly can in itself be medicine.

*Gudraab* .

A traditional Indian ayurvedic drink to be had in the cold winter evenings or on a wet, chilly rainy day.

Gudraab meaning Gud – jaggery and raab – gruel ( jaggery gruel ) is an age old potion which has been especially recommended for children.

*Benefits*

1. It is Nutritive
2. Provides warmth to the body
3. Protects the body from Cold, Cough, Sore throat, Shivers and Fever
4. Has a soothing and healing effect when taken post exposure to cold wind, rains or low temperatures.

*Ingredients* –

✓Desi cow ghee – 5 gms/ 1 tsp

✓Whole wheat flour – 5 gms / 1 tsp

✓Jaggery – 30-40 gms / 2 – 2.5 tbsp (as per the sweetness required )

✓Water – 250 ml / 1 cup

✓Dry ginger powder – a pinch

✓Black pepper powder – a pinch

✓Seeds from one Cardamom pod ~ crushed or cardamom powder – 1/8th tsp

*Preparation time* – 10 mins

*Method* –

In a small bowl boil water add the jaggery to it. Once it melts let it boil for a minute or two.Strain and keep aside.

In a small pan, heat ghee , once hot add the flour. Cook the flour on low flame till it turns brown ( be careful not to burn the flour). Turn off the heat and add the hot jaggery water. Stir and mix well till no lumps remain.

Heat again on low flame and add the cardamom, dry ginger powder and black pepper powder. Mix well and bring it to a boil. Switch off the heat and serve warm.

" सात्विक पेय "

Ingredients:-
4 -5 Deseeded Dates.
8-10 Almonds – ( blanched and peeled is definitely better, I took it fresh out of the fridge and used it as it is with the peel).
Whole cow milk ( 1 glass ).
Preparation Time : 5 mins

Method :

Put all ingredients in a mixer or a smoothie maker. Blend together. May take a few mins of blending and crushing to get a proper uniform consistency.

Yummilicous milkshake ready !!

Ayurvedic understanding of the contents is as follows:-
1. Dates

मधुरं बृहणं वृष्यं खर्जुरं गुरु शीतल् ।

क्षयेअ्भिघाते दाहे च वातपित्ते च तद्वितम् ।। च सू २७

Dates nourish the tissues , help in growth and development, stimulate anabolic metabolism, act as aphrodisiacs and are to be consumed when planning to start a family. They are cooling to the body and hence reduce symptoms of heartburn, irritation and burning of the skin. Very useful in healing wounds. Accelerate the healing process. They help in balancing the Vaata and Pitta Dosha.

2. Almonds

गरूष्णस्निग्धमधुरा्: सोरुमाणा बलप्रदा: ।

वातघ्ना बृहणां वृष्या: कफपित्ताभिवर्धना:।। च सू २७

Almonds have a warm potency are nourishing to the body. They reduce the dryness and Vaata in the body. They increase strength and vitality. Beneficial for growth and development of the body. However taking excess of almonds will aggravate the Kapha and Pitta Dosha.

3. Cow Milk

स्वादु शीतं मृदु स्निग्धं बहलं श्लक्ष्णपिच्छिलम् ।

गुरु मन्दं प्रसन्नं च गव्यं दशगुणं पय : ।।

Cowmilk is universally liked, it’s cooling to the body , reduces Pitta Dosha. It’s mild and is tolerated well by all age groups. It’s unctuous and reduces Vaata, reducing the dryness and cell degradation caused by aggravated Vaata. It is slightly heavy to digest. On consumption it pleases the senses and creates a feeling of gratitude.

The above qualities are just a glimpse. Dates, almonds and milk are rich with a variety of health benefits.

" आयुर्वेदाविषयी गैरसमजूती "

काल – परवाची गोष्ट! वजन कमी करण्यासाठी म्हणून एक पेशंट क्लिनिकला आली. तिला खात्री हवी होती की, अमूक दिवसांत इतके वजन कमी होईल. तिच्या सांगण्यानुसार तिने सगळ्या पॅथींची औषधे try करून झाली होती. “मी आयुर्वेदीक औषधेसुद्धा घेतली होती, परंतु काही उपयोग झाला नाही”; असे तिने म्हटल्यावर थोडे सविस्तर विचारले. मग कळाले की, कुठलीतरी advertise बघून त्यांनी सांगितल्याप्रमाणे तितक्या दिवसांचा कोर्स केला वगैरे. अशा लोकांना काय आणि किती समजवावे? वेगवेगळ्या जाहिराती बघून स्वत:वर प्रयोग करताना काहीच risk वाटत नाही का? आयुर्वेद आणि आयुर्वेदीक औषधांविषयी तर इतके गैरसमज रुढ झालेत की खरी परिस्थिती काय आहे, हे कोणालाच माहिती नसते.

आयुर्वेदाच्या औषधांचे side effects नसतात; ती घेतल्याने दुसरा कोणताही त्रास होत नाही, असा एक मोठा समज आहे. “Side effect” चा खरा अर्थ जर बघितला तर पेशंटला पूर्ण तपासून औषध दिल्यावर रोग बरा करताना दुसराच काहीतरी त्रास निर्माण होणे, असा होतो. आयुर्वेदामधे “चिकित्सा” करणे म्हणजेच रोग्याचा आजार बरा करणे आणि दुसरा कोणताही अपाय होऊ न देणे. त्यामुळे side – effects चा प्रश्नच उद्भवत नाही! आयुर्वेदात औषधांचे खूप वैविध्य आहे. रोग आणि रोग्याचे गुणधर्म जसे की- रुग्णाची प्रकृती, ताकद, सवयी, वय, पचनक्षमता, त्यावेळचा ऋतु अशा अनेक गोष्टींचा विचार करून योग्य असेच औषध वैद्याला निवडावे लागते. त्यात जर काही चूक झाली तर त्याचे दुष्परिणाम दिसणारच! पण ही चूक आहे, side effect नाही! म्हणजेच आयुर्वेदीक औषधाने side effects होत नाहीत; परंतु औषधाची योजनाच जर चूकीची झाली असेल तर दुष्परिणाम दिसतातच. आजीबाईच्या बटव्यातल्या औषधाप्रमाणे कोणीही देवून किंवा स्वत: घेऊन, त्या मागील शास्त्रविचार लक्षात न घेता जर आयुर्वेदीक औषधे वापरली तर ती घातकही ठरू शकतात. जसे की, पोट साफ होण्यासाठी त्रिफळा चूर्ण, इसबगोल सारखी औषधे कित्येक लोक वर्षानुवर्षे घेत असतात, त्यांच्या आतड्यांमधे आणि संपूर्ण शरीरात तीव्र कोरडेपणा निर्माण झाला तर त्यात नवल काय? सध्याच्या जाहिरातबाजीच्या युगात कुठेतरी बघून, वाचून, chemist च्या किंवा आजुबाजूच्या लोकांच्या सांगण्यावरून ‘आयुर्वेद म्हणजेे side effects नाहीत’ असे समजून आपण औषधे घेतो. त्याला आयुर्वेदीक treatment समजतो. असे उपचार करून जर बरे वाटले नाही तर आयुर्वेदाने गुण आला नाही म्हणण्यात काहीच अर्थ नाही!

दुसरे एक असे ऐकायला मिळते की, आयुर्वेद जुनाट आजारांसाठी आहे. आयुर्वेदाने आजार बरा व्हायला खूप वेळ लागतो; पण मूळापासून जातो. यात काही प्रमाणात तथ्य आहे परंतु गैरसमजूत जास्त! एखादा त्रास झाला की रोगी डॉक्टरांकडे जातो आणि लवकरात लवकर बरे करण्याची जबाबदारी डॉक्टरांवर टाकतो. कुठलाही त्रास बरा करण्यासाठी त्या आजाराचे स्वरूप लक्षात घ्यावे लागते. काही आजार मूळातच गंभीर असतात, काही खूप जुनाट झालेले असतात; काही वेळा एकातून दुसरा त्रास सुरू झालेला असतो. ताप आला की तो कमी होण्यासाठी crocin ची गोळी खाऊन कामाला जाणा-या लोकांना तापामध्ये आवश्यक ती विश्रांती कशी मिळणार? अॅसिडिटीसाठी antacid ची गोळी खाणा-या व्यक्ती जेव्हा आयुर्वेदापर्यंत पोहोचतात तेव्हा आजार जुना झालेला असतो. लोणचे जसे मुरले की त्यातून कैरी परत बाहेर काढणे अवघड असते, तसेच रोग शरीरात मुरलेल्या लोकांच्या बाबतीत असते. मग तो त्रास बरा व्हायला निश्चितच जास्त वेळ लागणार! पहिल्या दिवसापासूनच लक्षणासाठी तात्पुरता उपचार न घेता मूळ कारणांची चिकित्सा घेतली पाहिजे. रुग्णाच्या शरीराची ताकद हा सुद्धा एक महत्वाचा मुद्दा ठरतो. उतारवयात झालेला साधा खोकला सुद्धा बरा व्हायला वेळ घेतो. Night shift ला काम करणा-या लोकांची अॅसिडिटी किंवा सतत bike वर प्रवास करणा-यांचे मणक्याचे त्रास तात्पुरत्या औषधांनी तोपर्यंतच बरे राहतात जोपर्यंत शरीराची शक्ती त्यांचा विरोध करू शकते. नुकतेच झालेले, तरुण वयाच्या लोकांचे, कमी कारणांनी उद्भवलेले असे आजार लवकर बरे होतात; याउलट जास्त जुना झालेले, रोग्याची ताकद कमी असणारे असे त्रास बरे होण्यास वेळ लागतो किंवा औषधोपचारांनी केवळ नियंत्रणात रहातात, पूर्णत: बरे होत नाहीत.

आयुर्वेदाने आजार मूळापासून बरा होतो परंतु, सध्याच्या रुग्णांना पूर्ण बरे होण्याइतपत वेळ कुठे आहे? त्रास कमी झाला की पथ्य कशाला? औषधांचा खर्च कशाला? असे वाटणारे स्वत:च डॉक्टर बनून औषधे बंद करतात. तो रोग बरा होऊन आपले शरीर पूर्वीप्रमाणे पुन्हा सुदृढ होईपर्यंत औषध घेणारी मंडळी फारच क्वचित आढळतात. डॉक्टर कितीही हुशार असेल तरीही काढा नको, चूर्ण नको किंवा पंचकर्माची गरज असतानाही त्यासाठी वेळ नसेल तर उपचारांवर मर्यादा येतात. रुग्ण चिकित्सेसाठी लागणारा खर्च करू शकत नसेल किंवा त्याची काळजी घेणारे दुसरे कोणी नसेल अशा काही अपरिहार्य कारणांमुळे देखील चिकित्सेचा दर्जा कमी होतो. मग त्यांचे आजार लवकर बरे कसे होणार? मूळ कारण शोधून काढून ते टाळले आणि बिघडलेल्या गोष्टींना परत normal केले तरच रोग पूर्णपणे बरा होतो. नेमके हेच आयुर्वेदीक डॉक्टर करतो. शिवाय परत तो त्रास होऊ नये म्हणून शरीराला बलवान बनवितो.

माझ्या आसपासच्या प्रियजनांचे प्रबोधन व्हावे, त्यांच्या ज्ञानात थोडीफार भर पडावी आणि कोणत्याही जाहिरातींमार्फत त्यांची फसवणूक होऊ नये किंवा चूकीच्या पद्धतीने औषधे घेतली जाऊ नयेत, या उद्देशाने केलेला हा एक प्रयत्न!!!!

*LOOK* *YOUNG* *LIVE* *HEALTHY*
Today everyone is fascinated to look young and live a healthy life. Most of us believe that the anti aging cream or the night cream we use may help us look younger and some health drink or supplements might bring huge effects to our health. To be very honest, it’s all a trap! There is no short cut to health and to look young. Basically health comes from what you eat, breathe, live and ultimately your younger looks depends on your health status.

Ayurveda states that to attain holistic health the basic elements viz. the three humors (termed as Doshas), the seven types of tissues (termed as Sapta Dhatu), three wastes (Tri Mala), five sensory organ (Pancha Indriya), consciousness (Mana) and our Soul (Atma) must be in an equilibrium and maintain the blissful state. Any imbalance in these elements is the basic cause of any physical or mental disease.

To attain and maintain this state of health, Ayurveda suggest balancing the above mentioned basic elements. This can be done with a holistic approach of Ayurvedic Diet, Lifestyle, Detoxification and Herbal remedies (if required).

Here are a few suggestions related to Diet –

Eat fresh
Always go for freshly cooked food rather than packed preserved or refrigerated, as it makes a huge difference to your digestive system. To the least you can go for warmed up meals, in case freshly cooked is not possible. But make a rule to consume food prepared on the same day.

Go for fruits not for juice –
Fruits are always preferably than juices when you have an option to choose. To be more specific about fruits, it is best to have seasonal and regional fruits. Fruit intake should be strictly before meals as it enhances digestion by utilizing the fibers. Whereas post meal consumption of fruits can overloads the digestive system.

Plan your meals –
It is necessary to provide at least 3 to 5 hours (varies on individual body constitution and dietary habits) after a meal to get it digested well. Although the best time to have meals is when you are hungry it should also be noted that any snacking in the meanwhile may lead to overloaded digestive system resulting in sluggish digestion.

Avoid excess –
Eat according to your digestive capabilities while maintaining some part (approximately 1/4th) of your appetite empty for quick and better digestion. Also avoid excess consumption of a particular taste or substance. It’s true that you need all the nutrients for good health, but it will benefit you only when taken in a limited amount.

Avoid distraction while dinning –
Try to avoid any possible distractions such as TV, music, talking, reading,using mobile etc. as it is very important to be aware of what you eat. Keep your focus completely on your food during meals. Everything else can be spared for later!

Cut out coffee –
Many of us have a myth about caffeine, as it makes you feel fresh instantly with its stimulant rush. Apart from being addictive coffee also has another negative impact on your body i.e. Caffeine is a very strong stimulant which over a period of time leads to issues like anxiety, insomnia (sleeplessness), hyper acidity, impaired digestive system and bowel habit, etc. Not only coffee but even tea and other such stimulants should be avoided or at least limited.

Lifestyle related recommendations:

Workout regularly –
It is the best you can do for your health! Also your skin needs to flush out toxins via sweat. Sweating is a natural way of detox. For best results go for a moderate to heavy cardio workout such as Yoga, running, swimming, ground exercises, cycling, trekking or at least a power walk. Walking is a subtle form of exercise, but yes it is something better than nothing as many individuals may find it difficult to start with a heavy routine of exercise.

Face wash –
Wash your face 3 to 4 times a day, especially before bed time. It is not necessary to use any cosmetic product or some face wash. Water itself can serve the purpose, as it helps to remove the excess oil from your face and also rejuvenate your skin tissue by cleansing the clogged pores of your sweat glands. Until and unless you are exposed to excessive dust, pollution and sweat water would be sufficient.

Avoid sun exposure –
Sun exposure is surely something your body needs as a source of vitamin D. But excess sun exposure may lead to dullness of skin. Use a good sun screen lotion approximately 15 to 30 minutes prior to getting into the heat. Any good quality sun screen will do, as far as it suites your skin type.

Moisturize it well –
Apart from the wide range of moisturizers available in the market, it is best if you go for the natural form of moisturizer. Sesame oil in winters and coconut oil in summers can be a good moisturizer to be used instead of your night cream. This will keep your skin in good shape for the upcoming day.

Sleep early, wake early –
Early to bed and early to rise! This is the magic mantra of a healthy life. Sleep helps to relax your mind and also in the rejuvenation of skin. A good qualitative and quantitative sleep will give you a natural glowing skin and also reduces your dark circles.

Getting out of the bed might be a tough job for few individuals especially when you are habitual to wake up late every morning. But once you fit it into the new routine, the freshness will certainly amaze you. Waking up early will also make you sleep early at night helping you out of insomnia (sleeplessness).

Quit smoking –
The best advice to stay young and healthy is to get rid of your addictions. Smoking not just affects your lungs, but it also leaves a deep impact on your body. It can potentially cause harm to your nervous system, cardiovascular system, intellectual level, digestive system and also sn**ch away the natural glow of your skin. It might be difficult to quit if it’s been for quite long time but you can do it gradually with the help of beloved friend and family members. It only needs a motivation and determination from within.

What Is *Ayurveda*....?

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India.
It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a Balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. But treatments may be geared toward specific health problems and are effective, if taken under proper guidance.

Ayurveda and Your Life Energy : -

It's believe that everything in the universe – dead or alive – is connected. If your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe, you have good health. When something disrupts this balance, you get sick. Among the things that can upset this balance are genetic or birth defects, injuries, climate and seasonal change, age, and your emotions.

Those who practice Ayurveda believe every person is made of five basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water, and earth.
These combine in the human body to form three life forces or energies, called doshas. They control how your body works. They are Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and earth).

Everyone inherits a unique mix of the three doshas. But one is usually stronger than the others. Each one controls a different body function. It’s believed that your chances of getting sick -- and the health issues you develop -- are linked to the balance of your doshas.

Vata Dosha -

Those who practice Ayurveda believe this is the most powerful of all three doshas. It controls very basic body functions, like how cells divide. It also controls your mind, breathing, blood flow, heartfunction, and ability to get rid of waste through your intestines. Things that can disrupt it include eating again too soon after a meal, fear, grief, and staying up too late.

If vata dosha is your main life force, you’re thought to be more likely to develop conditions like anxiety, asthma, heart disease, skin problems, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Pitta Dosha -

This energy controls your digestion, metabolism(how well you break down foods), and certain hormones that are linked to your appetite.

Things that can disrupt it are eating sour or spicy foods and spending too much time in the sun.

If it’s your main life force, you’re thought to be more likely to develop conditions like Crohn’s disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, and infections.

Kapha Dosha

This life force controls muscle growth, body strength and stability, weight, and your immune system.

You can disrupt it by sleeping during the day, eating too many sweet foods, and eating or drinking things that contain too much salt or water.

If it’s your main life energy, practitioners believe you may develop asthma and other breathing disorders, cancer, diabetes, nausea after eating, and obesity.

Ayurvedic Treatment

An Ayurvedic practitioner will create a treatment plan specifically designed for you. He’ll take into account your unique physical and emotional makeup, your primary life force, and the balance between all three of these elements.
The goal of treatment is to cleanse your body of undigested food, which can stay in your body and lead to illness. The cleansing process—called “panchakarma”— is designed to reduce your symptoms and restore harmony and balance.To achieve this, an Ayurvedic practitioner might rely
on blood purification, massage, medical oils, herbs, and enemas or laxatives.
