"The conjunction of effort, concentration and balance in asana forces us to live intensely in the present moment, a rare experience in modern life. This actuality, or being in the present, has both a strengthening and a cleansing effect: physically in the rejection of disease, mentally by ridding our mind of stagnated thoughts or prejudices; and, on a very high level where perception and action become one, by teaching us instantaneous correct action... action which does not produce reaction."

~Guruji BKS Iyengar.

Happy Birthday to our Guru Geeta Iyengar! 🙏

Geeta S. Iyengar (7 December 1944 – 16 December 2018), the eldest daughter of Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar, was a yoga teacher credited with advancing yoga for women.

She studied yoga with her father from an early age. After graduating high school in 1961, she began substituting for her father when he was away on international teaching tours. Since her father's retirement in 1984, she was co-director, with her brother Prashant S. Iyengar (b. 1949), of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) as well as undertaking her own international teaching tours. She was a well-known figure in yoga around the world, in North America, Australia, South Africa, and Europe.

Setu Bandha Sarvāṅgāsana, also called Setu Bandhāsana, is an inverted back-bending asana in hatha yoga and modern yoga. The pose is named from the Sanskrit words सेतु Setu, a bridge; बन्ध Bandha, caught; सर्वा Sarva, all; ङ्ग Anga, limb; and आसन Asana, seat or posture as exercise.

Our student from Pune, India who has been attending our Advanced Online Yoga classes demonstrates this perfect "Shoulder Supported Bridge" pose.

Benefits of the Bridge Pose:
- Strengthens the back muscles
- Relieves the tired back instantaneously
- Gives a good stretch to the chest, neck and spine
- Calms the brain, reducing anxiety, stress and depression
- Opens up the lungs and reduces thyroid problems
- Helps improve digestion
- Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause and menstrual pain
- Helpful in asthma, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and sinusitis

Disclaimer: Avoid doing this pose if you are suffering from neck and back injuries.
