MAHA (Great of all), Shiva (The first Adi Yogi), Ratri (sacred night)
Who is Shiva ?
Shiva (pure consciousness) is considered as the first Yogi and God in Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma). He is the master to have passed the knowledge of Yoga to the first sages, Sapta Rishis (The seven great sages).
In the trinity expression, Lord Brahma (creator of the universe), Lord Vishnu (preserving the world) and Lord Shiva (Adi Yogi) is dissolution of the darkness in order for light to be revealed.
Shiva is the infinite, exists in infinite forms, but we mainly see it in three main forms: Mediating, Dancing (Natraj) and Shiva linga in Shanatan Dharma.
Why is it a sacred night ?
The night symbolizes the sacred union between Shiva (pure consciousness) and Shakti (cosmic energy), representing the harmony between the Pingla Nadi (solar energy channel) and the Ida Nadi (lunar energy channel). It is seen as an occasion for spiritual purification and elevation.
Therefore, it is an important sectarian festival of the year for spiritual seekers and devotees of the God Shiva.
What do we do on this special day ?
On the day of MAHA Shivratri, we honor and celebrate and worship the Shiva Linga by fasting, meditation, chanting Om Namah Shivaya. All different prayers are considered to be conducive to spiritual transformation and unity, to fill us with the experience of the true infinite nature and presence of the Divine.
Happy MAHA Shivratri 🦋🔱
