In the last photo, I could get myself into Kapotasana — but I used to compress my lower back far too much, causing pain I thought was “normal.”
Now, learning the correct alignment and opening what was stuck — the pelvis, thoracic spine — I find the shape may look less “deep,” but the experience feels far deeper: expansive, safe, and transformative. 🕊️
As a teacher, it’s always a gift to return to the student role. 🙏✨
While studying more in Iyengar-style yoga, I’m learning so much more about the alignment in asana.
A true asana is not just a “pose” or a shape we create for a moment —
It’s when the organs are gently stimulated and the various systems of the body — digestive, reproductive, circulatory — are regenerated through the right amount of tension and compression created by proper alignment.
It’s when the subtle energy channels of the body (nadis) open, allowing the release of emotions and memories that have accumulated for years in our tissues. 🌬️
It’s when the breath begins to move in a harmonious flow, and prana — our life force — becomes balanced and steady. ✨
