"Keep an eye on those who slander others, and do not involve yourself with them. If you were involved in various ways with a slanderer, immediately withdraw yourself from his companionship. Often, escape is equal to a victory.
No leader must engage himself in practicing slander of any kind. People are like books, which a true leader studies. By observing them without criticism, he learns the true laws of Nature and the psychology of people. In observing people’s responses, reactions, their de-structive or constructive actions, the events revolving around their lives, and so on, the leader learns precious lessons of the living Teaching. He has no time to slander anyone. He can protect his friends and his group from dangerous people by raising their standards so high that they immediately see those who are sources of problems, those who are traitors or agents of destructive forces.
For some leaders it is relatively easy not to slander people, but there is a form of slander into which they fall very easily and joyfully. This kind of slander is directed toward the Great Ones in the form of telling anecdotes, jokes, stories, or remarks. For example, some leaders tell funny stories about Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Moses, Jesus, or Mohammed to entertain people without knowing that this is a deeply slanderous action. Playing with the name of a Great One is recorded as a heavy slander because it denotes a lack of respect and devotion and the presence of light-mindedness and vanity.
Another form of slander is to use sacred words such as the Hierarchy or Shamballa as jokes or in stories. Examples must not be mentioned here, but one can easily see and hear many such kinds of slander. Holy and sacred names must always be pronounced with the highest respect, spoken softly, and with great devotion. In my many years of service, I have noticed that those students who made jokes with sacred names were eventually thrown out from the field of service, and misfortune followed their steps.
Solemnity is an act of highest respect to Those in higher realms and to the Holy Ones and sacred names related to spiritual centers and locations. Lack of respect to Holy Ones and holy places is a sign of inner degeneration. Leaders must be careful to be examples of solemnity, nobility, and simplicity."
