World Pediatric Surgery Day (April 7, 2026) (also World Health Day) is a reminder for parents that many surgical problems in babies and children are treatable when identified early.
In southern portion of North-East India (specifically in Barak Valley region of Southern Assam, parts of Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram), where facilities were earlier scarce, awareness is very important because timely medical attention can make a life-changing difference.
Conditions present from birth—such as food pipe blockage (tracheoesophageal fistula), intestinal blockage, or absence of a**l opening—as well as problems like hernia, swelling in the abdomen, urinary issues, or lumps, can often be safely treated by a pediatric surgeon.
Early consultation can prevent complications, reduce suffering, and ensure better growth and development of the child.
With gradually improving facilities in our region, these treatments are now available closer to home, reducing the need to travel far.
This day encourages parents to seek timely advice, trust specialized care, and remember that most pediatric surgical conditions, when treated early, have excellent outcomes—helping children lead healthy, normal lives.
