Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital (SGLEH) is proud to partner with the Government of Sikkim and Cure Blindness Project to implement the Elimination of Avoidable Blindness Program across the state.

Building on years of sustained engagement in Sikkim, SGLEH continues to strengthen community screening, streamline referral systems and expand access to planned cataract and sub-specialty services. By addressing cataract, uncorrected refractive errors, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and other sight-threatening conditions, the focus remains on early detection, timely intervention and long-term quality outcomes within the public health framework.

At SGLEH, we firmly believe that — and our journey in Sikkim stands as a testament to that commitment.

We are deeply grateful to Mission for Vision and CBM for Project Ujjyalo — the Universal Eye Health, Sikkim Disability-Inclusive Eye Health Programme — and acknowledge the support of Standard Chartered Bank along with CBM in strengthening primary eye care initiatives.

Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital successfully conducted a comprehensive eye screening camp in collaboration with the West Bengal Police Welfare Committee, Darjeeling District, under the leadership of Ms. Pratiksha Jharkharia, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling.

The initiative was supported by Shri Anindya Sundar Bhattacharya, W.B.P.S, Additional Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling; Shri Ujjal Das, W.B.P.S, Deputy Superintendent of Police (H.Q), Darjeeling; Shri Sumit Sarkar, Reserve Inspector of Police, Darjeeling; along with the Convener, DWGR Committee, Darjeeling, and the Reserve Officer (Welfare & Staff), Darjeeling.

A Primary Eye Screening Camp was successfully conducted on 20th February 2026 at Pashupati Phatak, India–Nepal Border, in collaboration with Sashastra Seema Bal 08 Bn, Khaprail, Siliguri.

A total of 163 individuals underwent comprehensive eye screening, and 33 beneficiaries were provided with spectacles for immediate vision correction — directly impacting their daily activities and overall quality of life.

Conducting camps in border and remote regions reinforces our commitment to eliminating barriers to accessible eye care. By extending quality vision services beyond hospital walls, we ensure that underserved communities receive timely screening, corrective support, and preventive care — delivered closer to home, where it truly makes a difference.

The camp was organised under the guidance of Shri Mitul Kumar, Commandant 08 Bn SSB. Our Story

The problem of avoidable blindness is rapidly escalating and have remained a major cause of concern in the India’s healthcare scenario especially in North Bengal. In a developing country the government alone cannot meet demands of the masses. Realizing this dearth need few socially conscious members of Lions Club of Siliguri Greater laid the foundation of a State-of-Art Eye Care Hospital and Training Institute bridging this gap in availing services and making eye care in reach of the people of North Bengal, North East, accessible equally from Eastern Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital was born in 1981 catering holistic eye care services since 35 years. The hospital is successfully continuing the journey reaching to more than 2,50,000 individuals every year through the Hospital, Vision Centres, Outreach activities and training. In partnership with the Government and notable civil societies Greater Lions have roared loud in restoring eyesight to them struggling for better vision avoiding blindness. We are proud to have become the most trusted and largest Eye Care service provider in North Bengal.
