🤔 Do you know what gives your toothpaste that gel-like or gooey texture—it's "Polyethylene glycol" or PEG—commonly mentioned as PEG-6, PEG-8, PEG-12.

Why Neti Neti Skips PEG – And What That Means For You!

Unlike conventional toothpastes that use Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) for a smooth, gooey texture, Neti Neti takes a conscious route.

Here's how we're different:

1. No PEG, No Petrochemicals
We avoid PEGs—petroleum-derived synthetics often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane.
Instead, we use vegetable glycerin: a plant-based humectant that’s safe, mild, and eco-friendly.

2. Less Gooey, More Honest
Because we skip PEG, our toothpaste isn’t artificially smooth or slick.
You might notice:
‼️Slightly thicker consistency
‼️Need for gentle pressure to squeeze it out

That’s the texture of truth—no fillers, no synthetics, just clean, conscious care.

3. Skin & Microbiome Friendly
Our PEG-free formula respects both your oral microbiome and sensitive skin, especially for those prone to irritation.

Welcome back to our
series where we are scrutinizing every small ingredient that goes in your Toothpaste.

Most popular toothpaste brands have used saccharin—a synthetic sweetener—for decades. While it's cheap and intensely sweet, its safety has been debated since the 1970s.

Originally derived from coal tar, saccharin was once linked to bladder cancer in animal studies and has since remained under ongoing scientific scrutiny. Today, it's known to disrupt the gut microbiome, potentially impairing digestive and metabolic health.

Yet, it continues to sweeten the toothpaste of millions—without any oral or systemic benefit.

At Neti Neti, we’ve taken a conscious step away from such ingredients. Our toothpaste contains no artificial sweeteners, no saccharin, and no shortcuts.
Instead, we use plant-based, microbiome-friendly ingredients that respect your mouth and your gut.

Because your oral care should be as clean and conscious as your diet.

The origin of saccharin dates back to 1879, when it was discovered by accident by Constantin Fahlberg, a chemist working at Johns Hopkins University.

Here's how it happened:

Fahlberg was conducting research on coal tar derivatives.

One evening, after a day in the lab, he noticed a sweet taste on his hand while eating dinner.

Tracing it back to his lab work, he identified the sweet compound as benzoic sulfinide, later named saccharin (from the Latin saccharum, meaning sugar).

Health concerns:

In the 1970s, studies linked it to bladder cancer in rats, but later research suggests— the effect doesn't apply to humans. The Mechanism is unknown!

Today, it’s FDA-approved, but some recent studies suggest—possible gut microbiome disruption—which means that it can hamper your gut health!!

Today, You would find saccharin in almost all.major oral care brands including those claiming "natural or ayurvedic" ones.

That's why we created Neti Neti toothpaste that's absolutely Saccharin free and made with clean natural stevia leaves extract that's good for your teeth, as well as the gut health!!

Safe for kids, the elderly and all of us in the middle😀

Your Sweet Toothpaste May Be Too Sweet to Trust."

Welcome to the Know Your Toothpaste series!
Let’s kick things off with something sweet—quite literally.
(Pun absolutely intended.) 😀😉

Saccharin in Toothpaste: A Sweetener with a Bitter Truth

Used in many commercial toothpastes, saccharin is an artificial sweetener that's 300–500x sweeter than sugar. It’s added not for health—but to mask chemical bitterness.

Here’s what the science says:

👍The Good:

Non-fermentable: Bacteria like Streptococcus mutans can't break it down.

This means less acid production, and in theory, a lower risk of cavities.
(Bowen & Pearson, 1992)

👉👉But Here’s the Bigger Picture:

1. No Active Benefit:

Saccharin doesn't help kill bacteria or strengthen enamel.

Unlike xylitol, it doesn’t actively prevent cavities—just doesn’t cause them.

2. Gut Microbiome Concerns:

Chronic exposure may disrupt your gut flora, altering metabolism and glucose control.
(Suez et al., Nature, 2014)

3. Controversial Cancer History:

Linked to bladder cancer in animal studies.

Now considered “not classifiable” (WHO/IARC), but caution remains.

Is taste worth the risk?
Especially when natural sweeteners like xylitol and stevia offer a safer, science-backed alternative.

You deserve a toothpaste that’s not just sweet—but safe, sustainable, and consciously formulated.

P.S. We didn't use xylitol— because it’s highly toxic to pets, especially dogs. And our brushing shouldn't hurt our furry friends. Isn't it.

Try Neti Neti and feel the difference!
We have just added a hint of sweetness to give you a refreshing experience—keeping health in the center.
