District Health Society South Andaman - National Health Mission Implementation of the activities of National Health Mission to improve health facilities in the South Andaman District

Recognizing the importance of Health in the process of economic and social development and improving the quality of life of our citizens, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has launched the National Rural Health Mission in the year 2005 as vision to carry out necessary architectural correction in the basic health care delivery system. The Mission adopts a synergistic approach by r

elating health to determinants of good health viz. segments of nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking water. It also aims at mainstreaming the Indian systems of medicine to facilitate health care. To implement the NRHM program in A&N Union Territory State Health Society has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary A&N Administration and at District level District Health societies has been constituted under the Chairmanship of respective Deputy Commissioners and established the office of District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) in the premises of District Office. On the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day, celebrations were held at PHC Manglutan and PHC Ferrargunj. At PHC Manglutan, the programme commenced with a welcome address by Ananya (HE), followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Anni (MO In-charge), Dr. Nilofer, Dr. Smita, and the LHV. Dr. Smita highlighted the significance of the day, explaining the principles, sources, scope, and benefits of homoeopathy, while Dr. Anni spoke on its role in the management of chronic diseases. Around 28 participants attended the programme. Meanwhile, at PHC Ferrargunj, a valedictory function was organized to felicitate the winners of the Baby Show and recipe competition held earlier in the day. The celebration began with an opening address followed by the lighting of the lamp by Dr. Aamir Khan, MO In-charge, marking the occasion with enthusiasm and community participation.

As part of the 100 Days TB Campaign, an Ayushman Arogya Shivir and HIV/AIDS awareness programme was conducted at Biological Park, Chidiyatapu, under AAM Rangachang, DH Garacharma. A total of 44 individuals participated (30 males and 14 females). During the camp, 44 individuals underwent NCD screening, 34 received chest X-rays, and 1 sputum sample was collected for CBNAAT testing.

As part of the 100 Days TB Campaign, an Ayushman Arogya Shivir was conducted on 09/04/2026 at Anganwadi Center 2, Harminder Bay, under AAM SHC Harminder Bay, PHC Hut Bay. A total of 16 participants attended the camp, including 7 males and 9 females. During the camp, essential health parameters such as height, weight, BMI, blood pressure (BP), random blood sugar (GRBS), and hemoglobin (HB) were assessed for all participants.

On 08 April 2026, the HPV Vaccination Campaign was conducted at PHC Swaraj Dweep under the supervision of Dr. Rahul, Medical Officer In-Charge, during which 9 children were vaccinated. An awareness programme was also organized at Government Senior Secondary School, Govind Nagar, where students and parents were educated about HPV infection, its prevention, and the importance of vaccination, and their queries were addressed. The vaccination was carried out by the medical team (LHV and ANM), while the CHO and PHN facilitated the consent process and updated details on the U-WIN portal.

On 07/04/2026, an Ayushman Arogya Shivir camp was conducted at Duke Nagar under PHC Billiground in the presence of Dr. Keshavan Murugesan (MO), Durga Rao, Dulal, NTEP staff from Mayabunder, Shri Harikrishna Nandi (PRI Member), and other health staff. The camp was organized under the supervision of Dr. Shailaja P., CMO i/c, PHC Billiground. During the camp, screening of all vulnerable groups was carried out. A total of 30 beneficiaries availed services and benefited from the camp. Additionally, 17 chest X-rays were conducted for symptomatic cases, out of which 2 cases were referred for CBNAAT testing.

On 07/04/2026, a Yoga session was organized under PHC Hutbay to mark the 75-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga (IDY). During the session, training on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) was imparted to Anganwadi Workers (AWWs). A total of 17 beneficiaries participated in the program.
