District Health Society South Andaman - National Health Mission Implementation of the activities of National Health Mission to improve health facilities in the South Andaman District

Recognizing the importance of Health in the process of economic and social development and improving the quality of life of our citizens, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has launched the National Rural Health Mission in the year 2005 as vision to carry out necessary architectural correction in the basic health care delivery system. The Mission adopts a synergistic approach by relating health to determinants of good health viz. segments of nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and safe drinking water. It also aims at mainstreaming the Indian systems of medicine to facilitate health care. To implement the NRHM program in A&N Union Territory State Health Society has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary A&N Administration and at District level District Health societies has been constituted under the Chairmanship of respective Deputy Commissioners and established the office of District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) in the premises of District Office. A geriatric clinic was conducted at AAM Nayashehar under PHC Manglutan. Blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring were carried out, and medicines for diabetes and hypertension were provided to the respective patients. Supplements such as vitamins and calcium, along with pain relief ointments and stool softeners, were also distributed. Health education was given to patients and their families on age-related conditions, with emphasis on promoting healthy aging practices.

As part of the 10th National Ayurveda Day, a health talk on Dinacharya and Ahara Vidhi for a healthy lifestyle was delivered by Dr. Keerthi, MO (Ayurveda), at GMS Wandoor under Ayush Gram Wandoor. An awareness programme was conducted at AWC Anna Nagar by the PHC Hutbay medical team on TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Anaemia Mukt Bharat, and VHND. Health talks were delivered on the causes, signs and symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment of TB, as well as the causes, signs and symptoms, prevention, and treatment of Anaemia. Along with this, a T3 (Test, Talk, Treat) camp was also organized. A total of 18 beneficiaries, including women aged 20–49 years and children aged 6–59 months, were screened. No cases of moderate or severe anaemia were detected. The programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Rajni Tiwari, MO I/c, PHC Hutbay.

As part of Swachhta Hi Seva Hai, a General and Lung Health Awareness-cum-Screening Camp was organized at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium. During the programme, the Police Entertainment Team performed a skit on TB to raise awareness among the participants. Chest X-ray screening was conducted, and ABHA as well as PM-JAY cards were generated for the beneficiaries.
