Many people wonder whether a severely twisted and deformed nose can be fixed. Every nose can be fixed however badly shaped it might be. Nose reshaping surgery or Rhinoplasty not only fixes the shape of the nose but also improves nasal breathing which is usually affected in such cases.
As 'a point in case' I'm sharing pictures of one of my patients. The patient experienced significant change in shape and function of the nose after undergoing Rhinoplasty & Extracorporeal Septoplasty.

In any surgery the outcome depends largely on the operating surgeons skills, experience and expertise. This is especially true of Rhinoplasty since there is no way one can hide the results of a bad Rhinoplasty. A rhinoplasty surgeon, therefore, in addition to possessing great surgical skills should have a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. The way a great painting requires a skilled artist to create an exceptional piece of art, Rhinoplasty requires a skilled surgeon with an artistic eye to create an aesthetically pleasing and functionally flawless nose.

Successful correction of the twisted nose can be accomplished only when all the anatomic components involved in the deformity are identified and surgically corrected.
Septoplasty (straightening of the partition which divides the inside of our nose into two halves) is an essential component of the Rhinoplasty procedure. As is obvious from the preoperative pictures of this patient his main deformity is deviation of his nose to the right side, he also has a nasal hump (bump on his nose) and broad nasal tip.
I perfomed Septo Rhinoplasty for him, straightened the septum thereby straightening his nose, removed the hump (bump) and fixed the tip as well. The results can be appreciated in the post operative pictures.

Surgery of the "Crooked Nose (twisted nose)" is challenging but definitely doable. Rhinoplasty surgeons correct the deformity either by an anatomic reconstruction where the whole structure of the nose is rebuilt block by block, brick by brick or by using camouflage techniques. However, there is no "one size fits all" solution that can be used for every twisted nose, the procedure has to be tailor made to suit the three dimensional anatomy of the nose and more importantly to suit the needs of the patient.

Aesthetic Rhinoplasty.... This patient wanted a purely cosmetic Rhinoplasty. She did not like the bulky appearance of her nose especially the "ball" on the tip of her nose. She wanted a narrower, refined nose with a well defined narrow tip.
As can be seen in the pre op photographs she has thick skin, which is typical of the Middle Eastern Nose. Thick skin is like a blanket that hides all the good work a surgeon does to improve the shape of the nose. Despite the thick skin I was able to give her a natural looking, refined nose that goes with her face. She has a round face, a more narrow or sharp nose would look artificial on her face. A good Rhinoplasty result is one where the nose fits the face, doesn't look artificial or made up and blends with the patients ethnicity.

Two main problems that a patient has to deal with as a result of an unsuccessful Rhinoplasty, are Cosmetic and Functional.
Since the nose literally "sits" in the middle of one's face it is impossible to hide the poor aesthetic outcome of an unsuccessful Rhinoplasty.
Performing a Revision Rhinoplasty in a patient whose cosmetic goals have not been met is always challenging. Achieving aesthetic results while preserving maximal nasal function is not a simple feat.
A Revision Rhinoplasty isn't only about improving upon an already unsuccessful surgery. It is more of a corrective procedure, where in the whole structure of the nose has to rebuilt while maintaining a healthy balance between "form" and "function". The most important thing that such patients have to remember is that perfection is not always attainable in revision surgeries, they should have realistic expectations.
This patient had undergone Rhinoplasty, elsewhere, with obvious unsatisfactory results. I perfomed a Revision Rhinoplasty on him.
