Fasting relieves and strengthens the digestive system while increasing its efficiency, and helps adjust triglyceride levels in the blood. Despite this, many have reversed the rule. With the abundance and easy preparation of food, people often break their fast with lavish feasts rich in a variety of dishes, sweets and fried food, leading to an increase in triglycerides and cholesterol and weight gain which is the opposite of what the fasting person is trying to achieve.

Most of the people who diet reach a point sooner or later where they experience Diet Fatigue (a breaking point) and that's the point where they say enough and that's when the guilty trip starts.
Luckily there are ways of making dieting more endurable and one of my preferred ways is eating low calorie, higher nutrient rich foods.

The best part about eating Fruits, Salads and Veggies in a Fat loss phase is that you get to eat lots of low calorie, nutrient dense foods and feel fuller for a long period of time. Yes, they aren't as tasty as a waffle or your favourite pastry but if you want to make a breakthrough and get to your goal this strategy will certainly be helpful. Feeling more satiated while dieting helps you go through periods when you want to binge and feel low on energy.

PS: Not all fruits and veggies are low on calories.

I prefer consuming coffee without any sugar but when it comes to tea, I always like it sweet.
If you're dieting and budgeting your calories then it's best to avoid Sugar (it's not as evil as it's been portrayed, only harms if consumed excessively). Stevia has been my preferred sugar alternative for the past 8 years and yes it's absolutely safe to consume. It takes some time to get used to the aftertaste but after a while you wouldn't even feel anything different about it.

What exactly is Stevia?

Stevia is a sugar substitute made from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant of South America. The leaves contain chemicals called steviol glycosides that have a highly concentrated sweet flavor.
Stevia is about 200 to 400 times sweeter than table sugar and is a non-nutritive sweetener, which means it has no carbohydrates, calories, or artificial ingredients.

You can find stevia in powder or liquid form in supermarkets and natural food stores in the baking goods or health food aisles. It comes in tabletop packets (usually green), liquid drops, dissolvable tablets, and powder products, as well as baking blends.

❌ Don't use cardio to punish yourself for eating more than you typically do, Don't use cardio as a means to burn Fat, Don't do cardio as your only training tool.

I have never been a fan of doing cardio workouts but I have always liked working out outdoors. In my early 20's I was quite buffed and at a certain point I realized that I should drop some fat to attain a leaner look (I wasn't certified back then and it was the time when Bro-science ruled the Earth). I tried walking and running on the treadmill, cross-trainers, air bikes etc. at the gym and since then I have dreaded stepping up on the treadmill or any other cardio machine.

In my final year of graduation, I moved to a locality which had a park and I could see people walking and running there in the mornings and evenings. One day when I was bored and thought of going to that park, I walked there for a while and ended up doing a few laps jogging and running. Since then I have liked doing my cardio workouts outdoors.

Back in 2022 when I had gained excess weight, I started to walk daily and ever since I have made it a point to do 10k steps daily and on weekends I would either go hiking or jogging. I had always wanted to run a Marathon since a long time but such events never took place in Kashmir but luckily last year I saw a poster for a Half marathon to be held on 3 Days notice and I knew I had to do it even though I had no experience of running such a long distance (Half Marathons are 21 kms long). Thanks to all the hiking and daily walks I was able to complete the half marathon in 2 hours 50 minutes (I had set the goal of doing it in under 2 hours 30 minutes). It was an amazing experience for me and now I have planned to do more Half/Full Marathons which will be held here in Kashmir. I have also improved my relationship with cardio machines at the gym and they have become more tolerable for me now (I plug in my ear phones and listen to Podcasts while doing cardio).
I would also recommend you to start walking,jogging,hiking,running,swimming to improve your cardiovascular health and research has shown that doing Zone 2 cardio is really good for overall health and longevity.

This picture has set a bar for me, my dad hiking and maintaining the pace with me and my friends on one of our weekend hikes. I really hope to be in such great shape when I am his age and to be capable enough to hike with my son when he's 32 and I am 65. My dad doesn't workout at the gym but I have always seen him remain active. He plays Golf 6 days a week, goes swimming during the summers, keeps himself involved with gardening and other physical work, eats sufficient protein and lots of fruits and veggies, drinks more than a gallon of water and most importantly knows how to manage stress. Their generation was built differently and ours is different and our children will be different, that's the law of nature, everything changes, nothing remains the same. With the advances in technology, things have become way too easy and convenient for us. We don't get sufficient movement, sunlight, water, nutrients etc as a result we suffer mentally and physically!

Anyways getting back to our topic of Longevity, our bodies are like efficient machines in our teens and our twenties but when the machine is put under a lot of work without sufficient maintenance it starts to show signs of wear and tear. On top of that add years of sedentary lifestyle, eating junk, smoking, drinking and now you have the modern 25 year old who wants to reverse it all in 12 weeks because he saw someone do it on IG!!
I keep meeting new clients on a regular basis and most of them keep telling me how fit they were in their college days or before they got married or before they had a family or before some life event and I see the longing they have to get back to their previous weight or shape. Unfortunately 80% of them never put in enough effort or get so caught up that they just keep wishing without putting in the actual work but the 20% do the necessary work required and attain their goals and some even go further ahead than the bar they had set for themselves. Fitness is not complicated, it's simple things done repeatedly over and again.
