Now, physiotherapists can practice independently or as a part of a multi-disciplinary team with a minimum calculation of a baccalaureate degree, as per the NCAHP bill passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. This would mean that the quality of physiotherapy practice will go several notches and patients will be greatly benefited.
As per this, physiotherapists can now practice independently and also diagnose. As they have specified only a graduate in physiotherapy can practice, this will put an end to all such unqualified physiotherapists who were taking the patients for a ride. As only qualified professionals will be on job, this would mean that there will be quality treatment to patients.
As per the bill, physiotherapist is a person who practices physiotherapy by undertaking comprehensive examination and appropriate investigation, provides treatment and advice to any persons preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement or functional dysfunction, malfunction, disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, using physical modalities including exercise, mobilization, manipulations, electrical and thermal agents and other electro therapeutics for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, health promotion, and fitness.
