For 2 decades now, Thane CPCA , formerly well known as Thane SPCA, has been working in the district of Thane to alleviate the sufferings of ownerless animals, inflicted on them by humans, nature or environment. In the summer of 2002, a handful of animal lovers took upon themselves, the onus of bringing to street animals, the care and attention they deserve. The working group started as caretakers on the streets of Thane, went on to build a hospital with the support of 4 animal ambulances and a 26 member staff team. An initiative that began to address the health and cruelty issues being meted out to street animals, has been now elevated to regulation and interaction with the Government sector and fellow organisations in the voluntary sector to ensure animals get their rights. This is done by a core group of Trustees and Patron members by setting high operating standards set by selfless principles. We aspire to build faith and trust between the Government and Non-Government sector which will be the only way to bring full relief to suffering animals. The norms for foundation of the organization were set in their Vision and Mission Statement along with its Objectives. The hallmark of this organization was and always will be honesty, transparency, good governance, public disclosure and accountability. After these hours, only emergencies are attended inside the hospital premises. Our Hospital is open between 9 AM and 9 PM for OPD patients, every day of the year. However, only our ambulance staff are allowed to leave the premises between 10 AM and 6:30 PM for attending rescue calls. Our night staff will not leave the hospital premises to attend calls between 6:30 PM and 10:00 AM. Please co-operate.Our Hospital is open for visits from 4 PM to 5 PM on all days except Public Holidays. Please contact our office on 09322271966 for an appointment in case you want to visit at a different time.

Diabetes Mellitus , surprisingly, is a common disease in animals. And thankfully, it is fully treatable. All it needs is a visit to your veterinarian, and a commitment from you to take a few extra steps in caring for your pet.

From a stapler pin, to broken cutlery, from plastic articles to your discarded fashion garments - every article disposed off thoughtlessly, harms animals and other vulnerable living beings - including rag pickers and sewage cleaners - through ingestion, entanglement, and habitat destruction.

Worms can cause a range of problems, including digestive issues (diarrhea, vomiting, bloating), weight loss, anemia, lethargy, and even organ damage.
Regular deworming of pets and livestock helps prevent the spread of parasites to humans through contact with f***s or contaminated environments.
It is essential to follow a veterinarian's recommendations for deworming schedules, as different animals and situations require specific treatment plans.

Black cats were considered good omen in some parts of Europe.
In Japan black cats are symbols of prosperity.
In France they are referred to as Magician Cats : treating them well is believed to bring good luck to their owners.
Loving a cat tends to lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of heart attack and stroke. The calming presence of a cat, including the soothing sound of their purring, can have a positive impact on a person's mental and physical well-being.
Go ahead, bring a cat home, feed that alley cat. Be happy and healthy

Meet Maahi. Rescued by Anupama Clement, one of the most hard core animal lovers we have known. We came to know that this rescue was criticised, arguing that Maahi would be fine on the streets, that she should not have been hospitalised. Here is a retort from our Veterinary team :

"Maahi was admitted to Thane CPCA Animal Hospital with severe maxillofacial trauma. Whatever was the cause of this trauma is not of importance at present, as is the protocol we can follow to negate it to the best of our abilities.
Such cases cannot be managed on the streets, especially during the monsoon season due to the high risk of maggot infestation, the possibility of being attacked by people due to the disfigured appearance and the increased danger of being hit by vehicles. All of which could severely affect the animal's prognosis. There is a chance for such cases to go south anyways, but in a controlled environment, welfare possibilities are much higher than living in the streets. If rescuers can locate such cases, and if space is available for such cases in any medical facility, there should be no argument as to where the animal should be for it's betterment."

Maahi in under the care of Surgeon Dr Shardul Salvi. He says : " She is currently undergoing the best treatment possible at our facility and we are doing everything possible to make her life comfortable and sustainable. We are definitely looking at Facial Grafting in the very near future depending on the musculature/tissue over the affected area.Currently we are concentrating on getting a good bedding for skin grafting."

First and foremost : Prioritise your own safety along with the safety of the injured animal.
Assess the situation, determine if it is safe for you to handle the animal by yourself. Even if it is, create a barrier between your body and the animal ( if you are not a regular animal handler ) to avoid being hurt yourself. If possible, reach out to experienced organisations who handle animals. Avoid feeding or watering unless advised by a professional. Resist the urge to self treat the animal.
Stay safe, do good, be blessed.

By nature, animals keep themselves clean by scratching, biting and rolling on mud. But in a human community, prioritising extra hygiene efforts, for your pets or community animals, makes you a responsible pet parent and community caretaker. Hygiene practices prevent a variety of health issue, promotes overall well being, clean environment and reduces zoonotic diseases. How often you should indulge in the practise will depend upon the breed, coat, activity level and living conditions. Happy Grooming !!

Pica can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, behavioral issues, medical conditions or could be a breed disposition. Please don't laugh it away. Your companion animal could be facing potential risks of toxicity, gastro intestinal blockages or nutritional imbalance.
Please consult an experienced veterinarian, address the behavioral issue if that is the diagnosis, prevent access to harmful items and manage the diet of your pet.
We see way too many cases of complications when Pica is kept unaddressed.
