Daily health tips: teeth

The general recommendation for brushing teeth is not focused on the number of strokes but on ensuring thorough coverage and adequate duration. Here are the key guidelines:

1. **Twice a Day**: Brush your teeth twice daily—once in the morning and once before bed.

2. **Two Minutes**: Brush for at least two minutes each time, ensuring all surfaces of the teeth are cleaned.

3. **Quadrant Approach**: Divide the mouth into four quadrants (upper right, upper left, lower right, lower left). Spend approximately 30 seconds on each quadrant.

4. **Technique**: Use short, gentle strokes, focusing on the gum line, outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and chewing surfaces of the teeth.

5. Interdental Cleaning**: In addition to brushing, using interdental brushes or flossing daily is crucial for removing plaque from areas a toothbrush can't reach.

Recent Advances and Best Practices
1. **Electric Toothbrushes**: Studies have shown that electric toothbrushes, particularly those with oscillating-rotating or sonic technology, can be more effective at reducing plaque and gingivitis than manual toothbrushes.

2. **Smart Toothbrushes**: These devices connect to smartphone apps, providing feedback on brushing technique, coverage, and duration, helping to improve brushing habits.

On23 rd March 2020, for the first time in our life we learnt a new word “lockdown”. We did not know what it meant and what it entailed. The police also did not know what to do and they modified things according to the situation. Daily News from the chief minister was watched with great interest and sometimes with horror and dread. Localized cutoff of neighbours hoods was rampant. People died in thousands, business failed, thankfully the Govt and the laws enforcement agencies ran smoothly. Basic necessities were to a great extent not affected. The Covid kits were a boon to many. Some people made profits, especially the health care business, they increased the charges, Covid patients were many and many hospitals made huge profits. The management of Covid patients was very poor, bedsores and pneumonia was common, sometimes even food was not enough. There were no one to control things, the govt did not provide supervisory facilities to check quality of treatment and nursing care. People suffered due to the disease and the poor management. Many NGO’s did exemplary work, many individuals were extraordinary in their efforts to help. Many died helping others. Humanity to a great extent relearned, to be humane. The Covid taught us many things we had conveniently ignored.

Are there two of us inside this body of mine? I know there are two kinds of me. One very strong, cruel, cunning, twisted, craving for for things, and making me do things that I would normally never do. It bubbles up when the "normal me" suddenly has a surge of emotions and then the other me surfaces, and I go out of control and does things I get ashamed of, I have been noting this, for a long time....

Strange are the ways of fate… When one. Is depressed and down, a ray of light so strong that it washes away all the blues is to be experienced to understand it. One evening I was sitting in OP and two beautiful ladies wafted in. They were both cheerful and smiling ever so warmly, that I spontaneously asked “Now , who is the patient?” For a minute more they smiled at me, then the young lady sat down on the patients seat....

Two incidents, one on the onward and the other, on the return flight were too much of a coincidence…. But… that’s exactly what happened… For the return flight from Chennai to Trivandrum, we were well prepared, we had left my wife’s cousins house around 4.30pm for the 9 pm flight and the drive was supposed to be around 40 minutes. We also had a plan B: Incase of heavy traffic, to take the Metro from the nearest station which was half way to the airport…We dropped that idea as the traffic was light, and we covered the initial half very fast....
