CRSJS - Serving The Right Cause Human Rights THE CIVIL RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE SOCIETY (CRSJS) is a registered NGO defending human rights since 1997. HO - Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala state, India.

The Civil Rights And Social Justice Society (CRSJS) is a non - profit NGO registered in Kerala state, India under the Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. Since its inception in 1997, CRSJS has been working to prevent police atrocities like custodial torture and other human right violations. CRSJS renders legal, financial and medical aid to victims of police atrocities. CRSJS also regularly conducts awareness camps, seminars and group discussions to spread awareness about human rights amongst the general public. CRSJS is a member of the World Coalition Against The Death Penalty and plays a significant role in mobilising public opinion against Capital Punishment. Since 2012, it has been observing the World Day Against The Death Penalty on October 10th in association with The World Coalition Against The Death Penalty. CRSJS was also associated with the Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC) that worked for the release of Irom Sharmila Chanu a human rights activist who was under detention in the Indian state of Manipur and who was on a protest fast since Nov 5, 2000 demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). CRSJS co-ordinated the activities and programmes of the SSSC in Kerala state. It has also organized the International Walk For Human Rights in Thiruvananthapuram on December 10th, the World Human Rights Day, in association with the Youth For Human Rights - India. The activities of CRSJS are wholly funded by its members as the society has an undeclared policy of not accepting any donations from outsiders. CRSJS OFFICE BEARERS:

CRSJS has two categories of membership - Life & Annual. The Life membership fee is Rs. 5,000 and the annual membership fee is Rs. 250. Membership is open to Indian citizens above 18 years subject to the approval of the Executive Committee. CRSJS ANNUAL EVENTS:

World Human Rights Day, 2024.

The World Human Rights Day event organised the Civil Rights And Social Justice Society (CRSJS) on 10th December at Gandhi Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram.

Every year CRSJS gives the Dr. S BALARAMAN HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER AWARD to a human rights activist. The award instituted by CRSJS in honour of its former patron, Dr. S Balaraman (former Chairperson of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission & former Vice Chancellor of CUSAT) consists of a memento, a certificate, and a cash prize of ten thousand rupees.

This year's receipient was Sri.S Thulasidharan, a former KSRTC bus Conductor who saved many lives during a railway crossing accident, a train - bus collusion 37 years ago on November 8th, 1987.

It was a well attended event which was inaugurated by the former Transport Minister Sri V S Sivakumar. Sri. K C Mohanakumar, Retd. Associate Professor, Govt Law College, Thiruvananthapuram delivered the Dr. S Balaraman Memorial Human Rights Lecture. CRSJS Secretary Sri R Jayachandran presided.

CRSJS office bearers Sri. Mudvanmugal Ravi, Adv. B Jayachandran Nair, and Sri. K Udayakumar also spoke.

The World Human Rights Day event organised the Civil Rights And Social Justice Society (CRSJS) on 10th December at the Satyan Smarakam Mini Hall, Thiruvananthapuram.

Every year CRSJS gives the Dr. S BALARAMAN HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER AWARD to a human rights activist. The award instituted by CRSJS in honour of its former patron, Dr. S Balaraman (former Chairperson of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission & former Vice Chancellor of CUSAT) consists of a memento, a certificate, and a cash prize of ten thousand rupees.

This year's receipient was Sri.GROW Vasu, a former Naxalite turned Human Rights Activist for his leadership role in exposing the extra judicial, fake encounter killings by Kerala police.

It was a well attended event which was inaugurated by the Kerala Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Chairman, Dr. N Radhakrishnan. Justice M R Hariharan Nair, former judge Kerala High Court delivered the Dr. S Balaraman Memorial Human Rights Lecture. There was a special address by the feminist activist Dr J Devika (Professor, Centre for Development Studies). CRSJS Secretary Sri R Jayachandran presided.
