In a heartwarming story from Kerala, T. Safeer, a Muslim panchayat member from Kadinamkulam in Thiruvananthapuram, fulfilled the last wish of a Hindu woman by performing her final rites. The woman, Rakhi, was 44 years old and originally from Chhattisgarh. She had been living at the Benedict Menni Psycho Social Rehabilitation Centre for over two years and was battling cancer. Before she passed away, Rakhi had expressed a simple wish that her last rites be carried out according to Hindu customs.
When no family members could be found to perform the rituals, Safeer stepped forward without hesitation. He, along with local residents, ensured that her cremation was done with full respect and in line with her faith’s traditions. Safeer said that his religion teaches respect for every human being, and that love and compassion are above all differences.
This act of kindness has won hearts across India, with many calling it a "real Kerala story," a beautiful reminder of unity and humanity beyond religion. Safeer’s gesture stands as a symbol of the state’s secular values and the power of empathy in times of sorrow.
