Day 10 – Vijayadashami × Victory of Dharma ✨

The tenth day of Navratri marks the triumph of Dharma over Adharma, Shakti over Asuri Shakti, and Rama over Ravana. After nine days of inner purification through the worship of Nav Durga, Vijayadashami represents integration when the lessons of all forms of Devi come together, helping us emerge victorious in life.

Spiritually, it is the moment when Kundalinī completes her journey and rests in the Sahasrāra chakra symbolizing the merging of self with the Divine. It is also the day of Āstra Pooja / Shastra Pooja, where we honor the tools, knowledge, and skills that protect and empower us in life. Traditionally, many people begin new ventures, education, or spiritual practices today, as it is considered one of the most auspicious days of the year.

A special ritual of this day is offering sindoor or sindoor seeds (रक्तबीज / sindoori beej) to Maa Durga. Sindoor represents shakti, vitality, and marital bliss. Offering it is symbolic of surrendering our ego, desires, and attachments to the Mother, who alone can dissolve them. This ritual also commemorates the Goddess’ victory over Rakta-Beej, when we symbolically return the seeds of endless desire back to Her.

🌺 How to Offer Sindoor Seeds:

1. Place the seeds on a clean plate or thali.

2. Offer them at the feet of Maa Durga with flowers, chanting “Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vichche”.

3. Apply a little sindoor (or touch the seed) to your forehead as blessing.

4. Later, immerse the seeds in a sacred river or place them under a peepal or banyan tree.

5. Some traditions also recommend boiling and consuming them as a way of purifying blood.

Vijayadashami is not just about outward victory — it is the reminder that when we surrender ego and align with Dharma, true liberation begins🍀

Day 9 – Maa Siddhidhatri × The Awakened Soul ✨

Maa Siddhidhatri is the culmination of Navratri, the radiant goddess who grants siddhis (perfections) and ultimate liberation. Seated gracefully on a lotus, with chakra, shankha, gada, and lotus in her hands, she represents the balance of power, purity, protection, and divine truth.

On this day, the kundalinī has reached the Sahasrāra, the crown chakra. But her gift is not just about one chakra, she harmonizes them all. From Mūlādhāra to Sahasrāra, energy flows freely, lighting up each center of the body. When this happens, body, mind, and soul no longer function separately they become one vessel of divine Shakti.

Ayurveda links this day with sesame seeds (til), the traditional offering. Sesame is sacred because it absorbs impurities and negative karmas, while also strengthening majjā dhātu (nervous tissue, brain), making it the perfect nourishment for Sahasrāra awakening.

Maa Siddhidhatri symbolizes mokṣa, the state where one is free from the pull of fear, desires, and ego. Liberation is not about leaving the body — it is about living in complete bliss, free from duality, while still alive🌸✨

Day 8 – Maa Mahāgaurī × Old Age ✨

Maa Mahāgaurī represents the stage of life after menopause - old age, when maturity, refinement, and purification shine through. Just as the goddess radiates pure white after years of tapas, a woman in her elder years embodies simplicity, peace, and quiet radiance. This is not the age of fertility or worldly struggles anymore, but of detachment, wisdom, and spiritual blossoming.

Her whiteness symbolizes clarity of mind, washed clean of karmic stains. The harsh experiences of life are softened into compassion and grace, turning old age into a flowering of inner beauty. Ayurveda connects this stage with the Sahasrāra chakra (crown) the union with the divine, blissful detachment. The śukra dhātu (reproductive tissue) is no longer engaged in procreation, but instead sublimates inwardly, nourishing ojas, the essence of vitality. This gives the elder woman her glow, her strength, and her softness.

Even the food linked with Mahāgaurī, coconut, reflects this wisdom. Its hard outer shell represents life’s struggles, while the pure white interior stands for the refined soul after cleansing. The nourishing water inside is sustaining, cooling, and deeply life-giving just like the spiritual energy of this stage of life.

Maa Mahāgaurī teaches us that old age is not decline, but refinement, the stage where the body slows, but the spirit shines brighter than ever🌸✨

Day 7 – Maa Kālratri & Menopause

🔹 Stage of Life - Menopause is the dark night of a woman’s cycle.
Kālratri represents this fierce passage — destruction of the old cycle (fertility, menstruation, hormones tied to reproduction).
The woman’s energy is no longer cyclical, it begins to consolidate and rise upward.
🔹 Chakra Behind Ājñā
Just behind the Ājñā lies Bindu Visarga, a subtle chakra in the middle of the head.
This is where nectar (soma) drips down — but in menopause, it “burns” as heat flashes, dryness, insomnia.
Kālratri’s darkness is this burning of soma, where the inner amrit is tested before stabilizing.
If balanced, it becomes intuition, calm vision, inner guidance.
🔹 No Dhātu association
By this stage, the dhātu cycle (rasa → rakta → māmsa → meda → asthi → majjā → śukra) has completed its reproductive purpose.
That’s why Maa Kālratri = “the destroyer” — she ends dhātu-linked worldly cycles, opening the path to higher consciousness.
🔹 Jaggery (Gur) - Jaggery is offered to Maa Kālratri.
Symbolism: It heats and grounds vāta ( bringer of old age )
It replaces lost sweetness (since menopause feels like bitterness, dryness, irritability).
It reminds that after the dark night comes sweetness — just as Kālratri’s fierce face hides her motherly heart.

✨ Summary
Maa Kālratri = Menopause itself.
Chakra behind Ājñā (Bindu) lays soma menopause makes it accessable opening higher intuition.
No dhātu focus → because the reproductive cycle has ended, paving way for ojas and liberation.
Jaggery = grounding, sweetening, and symbolic offering to soothe this fierce transformation.

Day 6 – Maa Kātyāyanī (Middle Age, The Inner Journey Begins)

1. Motherhood & Life Stage
Maa Kātyāyanī represents the woman in middle age, who has lived through worldly struggles, fulfilled duties, gained experience, and wisdom.

Until Maa Skandamātā, life is mostly about outer struggles — family, children, survival, society.

With Kātyāyanī, a shift happens: the inner journey begins.

From this stage, the focus turns to self-realization, harboring the higher self, and preparing for spiritual maturity.

2. Kundalinī & Chakra
On this day, Kundalinī rises to Ājñā (third eye chakra).
Ājñā = command, intuition, divine vision.

She is the seer-mother, who can foresee dangers, guide with clarity, and command the direction of life.

3. Dhātu (Body Tissue) – Majjā (Bone Marrow / Nervous Tissue)
Majjā dhātu nourishes the nervous system, sharpens the mind, and builds intuition and courage.
Just as Majjā is hidden deep within bones, so too the inner strength of a woman emerges in this stage.

4. Elemental Quality
Ājñā chakra is linked to manas (mind) and subtle light.
Maa Kātyāyanī brings the illumination of inner sight — the warrior mother who turns her weapons inward, conquering inner darkness, ignorance, and fear.

5. Food of the Day – Honey
Honey sharpens the mind, improves focus, nourishes majjā dhātu, and carries prāṇa deeply into tissues.

Symbolically: Honey is the essence collected from many flowers, just as the mother gathers her worldly experiences and transforms them into sweet wisdom.

✨ Essence: Maa Kātyāyanī is the turning point — from outward worldly duties to the inner work of self-realization, carrying the sweetness of wisdom gained through life’s journey.

Day 5 – Skanda Mātā (The Mother of Skanda)

1. Motherhood Aspect

The 6 heads of Kartikeya represent 6 chakras of body

Him sitting in Maas lap represents the chakras coming being aligned or synchronized

Kundali when risen is protective and empowering — she raises you like her child not in attachment, but in strength, courage, and dharma.

2. Kundalinī & Chakra -
On this day, the Kundalinī rises to Viśuddhi (throat chakra).

Viśuddhi is about truth, purity, and expression → the mother’s voice as mantra that shapes the child.

The throat also connects to nourishment (swallowing, feeding milk/food) → the intimate bond of mother and child.

3. Dhātu (Body Tissue) – Asthi (Bone Tissue)
Bones give structure, firmness, and stability → like the mother gives a child structure, discipline, and moral backbone.

Skanda Mātā represents the formation of Asthi dhātu – making us strong, upright, and unshakable in dharma.

4. Elemental Quality-
Viśuddhi is linked to ākāśa tattva (ether) → the expansive, spacious, open quality of motherhood where the child can grow and express.

5. Food of the Day – Pān (Betel Leaf)
Pān balances kapha, sharpens voice, clears the throat, and stimulates digestion.

Symbolically: the green leaf cradling sweet/spicy fillings = the mother’s lap holding the child, nourishing and energizing.

In rituals, pān leaves are also offered as symbols of hospitality, respect, and freshness — reflecting the mother’s welcoming embrace.

Day 4 – Maa Kushmanda x Cosmic Womb🌼

Maa Kushmanda is known as the Cosmic Womb of Creation. With her gentle smile, she radiates life into the universe. In her many hands, she carries weapons for protection, a lotus for purity, a japa mala for devotion, a kamandalu for life-giving water, and a honey-filled pot symbolizing the nourishing womb filled with sweetness and vitality.

On this day, the Kundalini energy is said to rise to the Anāhat (heart) chakra, opening the seat of love, compassion, and expansion. Ayurveda connects this form of Devi to the nourishment of Meda Dhatu (fat tissue), which brings softness, lubrication, and stability to the body, while also enhancing the Vāyu (air element) that governs prana and vitality.

Traditionally, Ashgourd (Kushmanda / Petha) is consumed on this day. It pacifies Vata, nourishes all dhatus, strengthens immunity (ojas), and cools the body, truly a gift of nature aligned with the Devi’s energy.

Blessing of the Day: May Maa Kushmanda bless us with health, vitality, creative energy, and the strength to sustain and nurture life, just as she sustains the universe✨

Day 3 – Chandraghanta & Bridehood🌼

On the third day, we honor Chandraghanta, the goddess radiant like a bride, graceful yet strong, tender yet fierce when needed. She symbolizes wisdom, grounding, and the courage to stand by her partner through life’s challenges.

In yogic tradition, her energy rises to the Manipura chakra, the seat of fire, discipline, and willpower. Ayurveda connects this day to the nourishment of Māmsa dhatu (muscle tissue) and the radiance of Tejas (fire element). Together, they give us strength, vitality, and resilience.

Food for the Day:
To balance Agni while supporting strength:
1. Yellow & orange foods: pumpkin, papaya, mango, turmeric-infused dishes
2. Muscle-nourishing foods: paneer, sesame, almonds
3. Warm digestive drinks: ginger tea, lemon-honey water, or cumin–fennel decoction

Action: Practice Surya Namaskar to activate Manipura and channel energy into discipline and clarity.

May Chandraghanta Devi bless us with the willpower to walk through life with courage and balance.

Day 2 – Brahmacharini & Studenthood 🌼

On the second day of Navratri, we worship Brahmacharini, the goddess of discipline, knowledge, and devotion. She represents determination and the pursuit of learning, qualities that perfectly reflect the stage of studenthood in a woman’s life.

Ayurveda connects this stage with the rising influence of Pitta dosha, the energy of transformation, focus, and drive. Just as a student needs determination to stay on the path of learning, Pitta provides the fire for clarity, memory, and ambition. But when imbalanced, this fire can also bring stress, irritability, or burnout.

To balance this stage, Ayurveda suggests:

✅Light but nourishing foods: ghee, seasonal fruits, and warm milk to cool excess Pitta.
✅A consistent routine with early waking and adequate rest to maintain focus.
✅Avoiding overstimulation like junk food, late nights, and excess screen time, which can disturb both body and mind.

Takeaway: Studenthood is the time to channel energy into growth. With the right balance of discipline, nourishment, and rest, this stage creates the strength and stability needed for the journey ahead.

Day 1 – Shailaputri & Daughterhood 🌼

The Daughter of the Mountains, Shailaputri represents the stage of childhood and daughterhood in a woman’s life. She reflects innocence, curiosity, and the raw potential waiting to blossom.

In the yogic tradition, she embodies the dormant Kundalini Shakti resting in the Mooladhar (root chakra), the source of stability and grounding. On this day, Ayurveda connects her energy to the Rasa Dhatu (essence of nourishment) and the Prithvi Tattva (earth element) the foundations of vitality and growth.

To honor these, Ayurveda recommends grounding practices: eating simple, nourishing foods and even using ghee as nasal drops (nasya) to support balance, immunity, and mental clarity.

May Shailaputri Devi bless us with the flexibility, curiosity, and childlike spirit that keeps life fresh and full of wonder🌸

Navratri has always been special to me. It’s not just about devotion it’s also about balance, rhythm, and reconnecting with nature.

🌺 On a physical level, the nine forms of Devi reflect the nine stages of a woman’s life.
🌺 Spiritually, this is a time to awaken the Kundalini Shakti that lies within us.
🌺 Ayurveda reminds us that this season is a shift from rains (Vata kaal) to autumn (Pitta kaal), which is why simple foods like milk and ghee help us stay balanced.
🌺 Culturally, it’s celebrated as a harvest festival, a reminder to be grateful for abundance.
🌺 And astrologically, with the Sun in Kanya Rashi (Virgo), the feminine energy is honored and given space to heal.

Stay tuned for a special 9-day series where I’ll share how each form of Devi connects to the different stages of a woman’s life through the lens of Ayurveda.🍀
