Ms. Reena Michael,
Innovative Educator & Leadership Mentor.

Often, we’re blessed to have people who aren’t just a force of nature, the multiplier effects they bring creates generations of people who follow in their wake.

Reena is in that category of force multipliers.

Living in different areas of the country in an army family, teaching in Delhi, Bangalore & Cochin, this teacher with a tough-as-nails personality & soft-as-snow touch for children, brought the concept of multiple intelligences to her home of Kerala. And since she couldn’t get takers at other schools for how she wanted to teach, she started her own, Rina’s Shiksha Niketan.

From a start of 15 students, her school has educated generations of children over a quarter of a century.

It’s not just the achievements of her students that form part of her multiplier force for good, it’s the solution-oriented attitudes they imbibed at her school that make them valuable leaders of tomorrow.

Reena's holistic multiple intelligence system fosters a sense of community & innovative thinking among teachers and students alike. Her system of education starts with the credo that each student is their brother’s keeper. The good of the whole student body is harmony for the good of the individual. That service is the noblest way to develop self-worth.

Reena's results are best seen in the school’s annual function, which has become a sought-after ticket & unique event in Cochin's social calendar. Distinct from all other annual events, it revolves around a single theme involving every student at school. From grand props to choreography & music, the teachers & students develop every bit themselves. It is this experience of teamwork, creativity & commitment to excellence the students take into the world & their future endeavours.

Sister Mercy Thomas
Humanitarian & Artist Mentor for the differently-abled.

For all the wonderful people who do God’s work and deserve our gratitude, we’ve taken this opportunity to recognize someone special.

Sister Mercy Thomas is an exemplar of service above self.

From Kerala and beyond its immediate shores to Hungary, Sister Mercy has been at the forefront of mentoring the differently abled for decades. It’s been her life’s work and quest to help the differently abled lead fulfilling lives through art.

She has worked with differently abled children of all ages, including a stint at a village in Hungary, where locals lauded her for the commitment she brought to help the children of the village transform themselves through immersion in art.

Closer to home, she was the administrator of 'the KIDS', a program to empower differently abled develop economically, along with self-esteem. The program provides counseling, artisan cards and insurance, among many features to provide dignity to children with challenges.

To everyone she comes across, she is the ever-smiling face of optimism and good cheer. Hers is no easy work and behind her good cheer is a steely determination to do right by her work for God and for those under her guidance.

For her passionate commitment to the differently abled and for reminding us that it’s what we do for others that brings true happiness, Sensotica is proud to highlight this Humanitarian and Artist Mentor. She is an inspiration to all of us to be the light in the lives of the less fortunate.

Ms. Lakshmi Menon, designer turned social entrepreneur.

Lakshmi is known across India for Ammoommathiri/ Wicksdom and Chekutty dolls fame.

This designed turned social entrepreneur is behind many socially conscious initiatives that have received global recognition.

A few of her initiative and recognitions:

1. BBC highlighted her Ammoommathiri initiative in their 'Change makers' series.

2. Her Chekutty dolls initiative is now an icon of resilient Kerala.

3. Her plantable paper pen initiatve, for which she holds a global patent, is now replicated worldwide.

4. Her pandemic driven initiative ‘Coveed’ is shortlisted for display by the National Museum of Scotland.

5. Her latest initiative, Shayya, creating bedrools from the scrap left over from making PPE saw inclusion at the World Economic Forum agenda, and closer to home, interest by Anand Mahindra has to invest in the Shayya initiative.

6. Quilt India Samman project repurposes unsold fabric of weavers into mommy kits for newborns in war hit zones, proving yet again that design thinking is all in a day’s work for Lakshmi.

An alumnus of CMS College, Kottayam, she spent 10 years in San Francisco, during which time New York Fashion week recognized her as a featured artist and jewelery designer, for her work at the Artizmo local artisans Gallery.

She is a governing council member of National Innovation Council India.
