Here’s why you don’t need a quality department! 👇👇
BECAUSE QUALITY IS NOT A DEPARTMENT!!!
(Sorry, did I sound like I was yelling?!)
Think about it. Think about how ludicrous and foolish it is to treat quality as though it is some separate thing that operates independently from the organization.
Quality is everywhere.
Quality is a responsibility and a commitment, it is not a department.
Quality is a part of every single department, aspect, and element of the business.
And if it’s not... oh oh
How can we separate the quality management system from design and development?
How can we separate it from customer service? From manufacturing? Delivery? Service? Supplier selection? Marketing?
We can’t, right?
So, why do we so often treat it as though it is a department within our organization?
The quality people know this. And fight against it every day.
So why don’t we change how we talk about quality?
We need to help those who work in our organization who are not “in quality” understand that it is also part of their department and part of their responsibility.
I know what you’re up against. I was in your shoes. It is incredibly frustrating when top management only give a passing nod to quality once a year at the management review meeting. Or when your service team does a mad scramble to make sure they’ve got everything in order the night before an audit.
This is how to pass an audit; this is not how to have an organization with superior quality.
If you want to stand above the competition and ensure your brand and product is associated with quality, then there needs to be a mindset, or culture, of quality. From how you hire and train your people, all the way through to how you follow up once your product is in the market.
