With to***co causing one death every four minutes in India and contributing to 1.3 million deaths annually, scalable, evidence-based interventions are critical. Towards addressing this concern, Karkinos Healthcare has developed impactful solutions that recently garnered global recognition at the World Conference on To***co or Health (WCTOH) in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Aditi Jhaveri, Programme Associate – Bioinformatics, representing Karkinos, was awarded a full scholarship by The Union and Bloomberg Philanthropies to present their research - one of the 220 projects chosen from over 1500 submitted globally. She presented alongside an esteemed gathering of global thought leaders, including representatives from the WHO, Vital Strategies, and the FCTC, as well as government ministers, policymakers, and leading clinicians.
At the conference, Karkinos Healthcare presented a multicomponent to***co intervention, integrated across hospital and community settings in India. This initiative successfully educated over 10,000 individuals and, remarkably, empowered more than 700 low- and middle-income to***co users to take their crucial first steps towards quitting. The intervention was a comprehensive blend of in-person behavioural counselling and Ni****ne Replacement Therapy (NRT), a dynamic digital intervention featuring nudges, gamification, and CBT-informed prompts, and structured telephonic follow-ups by dedicated community health workers to reinforce engagement.
This work reflects a collaborative effort by the team including Dr Aditi Jhaveri, Dr Dr Kunal Oswal, Dr Pranoti Hiralkar, Lakshman Sethuraman, Gopal Pawar, Sarika Kulwant, and Dipali Sonune – all committed to advancing community-based cancer prevention.
Aligned with our mission to make cancer care preventive and accessible, we are actively seeking visionary funders, collaborative partners, and forward-thinking corporations to help scale these proven models. Together, we can expand our impact, transform to***co cessation and workplace wellness interventions—creating healthier communities and more productive workforces—and help more individuals embrace healthier, longer lives.
