It is generally recommended to avoid bright lights before sleep because exposure to bright lights can disrupt our natural sleep-wake cycle and make it harder to fall asleep.
Bright lights, particularly those that emit blue light, can interfere with the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle. Exposure to bright lights before bedtime can suppress the production of melatonin, making it more difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep.
To promote better sleep, it is recommended to avoid bright lights for at least an hour before bedtime. This includes avoiding electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers that emit blue light. Instead, try to wind down by reading a book, taking a warm bath, or listening to relaxing music.
If you must use electronic devices before bedtime, consider using blue light filters or wearing blue light blocking glasses to reduce your exposure to blue light. These filters and glasses can help to reduce the disruptive effects of blue light on your sleep.
