This is probably the first question I have seen people asking. I wonder if it is important. I also wonder how can we go beyond this question and offer help.

Won't every women have a better C section birth experience if they knew what to expect before and after the operation?
(Especially the ones who weren't expecting to have a C-section and had an emergency!)

Time to change that๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Why postpartum rehab?
Simply because it is necessary, overlooked and you queens deserve the best! ๐Ÿ‘‘
Postpartum can be a scary time. You are taking care of a tiny being who poops, pees and feeds 192629 times a day. You're not getting enough sleep and want to feel energetic like before.
Sadly, you weren't told about what TO DO to take better care of yourself after C-section. However you were given a list of things NOT TO DO. (which btw is unrealistic. Don't bend ever?? Why? Till when?? Ugh)
So you go down the Google rabit hole searching for symptoms and solutions and it goes nowhere ๐Ÿ˜ญ
People around you dismiss it by saying "OH don't worry *insert genuine problem* will go away on its own" ๐Ÿ˜’
I am this close ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ to going on a rant here.

Bottom line is- you're not alone.
You're a woman that deserves quality rehab after bringing a miracle into this world.
I am here to help you do that โ˜บ๏ธ

Then why do we hear them say--
"Oh I can't take rehab after delivery, it is expensive"
"But a sports bra? Um no"
"I simply don't have time or money to work on myself"

This is NOT to minimise the actual socio-economic barriers to postpartum rehab.
Women in India are still denied the support they deserve postpartum.

This is a reminder to tell you that ๐™”๐™ค๐™ช'๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ ๐™ž๐™ฉ! (More than just a brand tag line)

So take that class, get those medical tests done, take the continuing education course, Get the professional help.

A C-section doesn't mean you didn't try hard enough!

There are many reasons to have a C-section. It is usually done in an emergency when baby and/or mother are in distress. If prolonged labour could be harmful for either of you, the surgeon might opt to do a C section.

That's not all- you can also CHOOSE to have a C section before your delivery. You and your OBGYN can work together to see if that's the best option for you.

By choice or by emergency- you'll need the rehab just the same ๐Ÿ˜„

Before we move to rehab it is important to understand what happens in a Cesarean delivery. There's always so many doubts and fears in mind.

"Can I get up straight?"
"Should I do this?"
"But what if ___ happens?"

I feel you. Women are not adequately prepared for real life after C-birth.

I am a firm believer of fighting fear with knowledge โ˜บ๏ธ
Once you understand it, you can learn to move with it.

I have often said to women that they need postpartum rehab so they'll have more energy to take care of the baby.
Last night I was reading Strong Women Lift Each Other Up by and it made me reflect on how we justify self- care through taking care of others.

IT IS DIFFERENT THAN YOU MIGHT THINK!
We've all learned different things about postpartum through friends, family, media and even health care providers!

While it is considered to be a period of COMPLETE rest, now we know that gradual and graded movement is more beneficial.

It is process of reconnecting with your mind and body the way you can.

Yes, it is not always rosy- "No one told me pooping will be the hardest thing I have to do after delivery!!"
No one tells you about the hard part, or how you can get through it at the 6 week checkup at OB-GYN.

You're just 'cleared' for life.

Diaphragm i.e our primary breathing muscle does more than just breathing. ๐Ÿ’จ

It is an integral part of the core that works together for stabilization and movement

A major part of it happens involuntarily i.e without our active control. Our ๐Ÿง takes care of it.
(Can you imagine how hard it would be if we had to think everytime we breathe? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ)

Although sometimes our breathing does get out of sync at rest or while physical activity like working out or lifting/pushing anything.

That can create more work for other muscles that our usually not involved in those tasks.

So we need to check in every now and then to see if we're using the right breathing strategy for us.

I'll cover that soon!
