A lot of people want to switch to more natural, less processed versions of sugar for their daily chai, drinks, sweet dishes etc. This can range from jaggery, honey, maple syrup and coconut sugar to name some. And although this is great if you want to eat less processed added sugars and like the taste of it but it does not equate to better weightloss or weight management ingredient.
Table sugar, jaggery, honey all have the same no. of calories (4kcal for every gram) and similar glycaemic index (how it affects your blood sugar).
Often times in our quest to switch to these natural forms of sugar one can tend to add more of it in foods, as the the palatability is not quite there when compared to white sugar. Therefore instead of 1tsp sugar you will end up adding a tablespoon (×3) of jaggery "cause it's healthier" well weightloss just doesn't work like that. One tablespoon would mean additional 8kcals everyday or everytime you consume the particular sweeteners.
So what should you do?
✨️ Choose the sweeteners you like the taste of. This could be different for different foods and drinks.
✨️ Be vary of the amount you add as all of them have the same amount of calories and will affect weightloss goals in the same way.
✨️ Portion your sweets well so you don't end up overeating the dish and thereby the sugar (whichever form) in it.
