Celebrating Bharathi’s Vision at Sevalaya ✨

The Urattha Sinthanai Readers Writers’ Association and Nam Urattha Sinthanai Tamil magazine organised the Bharathi Ula festival to spread Bharathiyar’s message to the younger generation at Sevalaya’s Kasuva Centre on 4 Dec 2025.

Sevalaya Students performed Bharathiyar songs and participated in a seminar on “Bharatha Nadu Parukkellam Thilakam.” Books signed by Popular Tamil Writer Pattukottai Prabhakar were gifted to the quiz winners.

K Kaviya was awarded ₹1,000 as Best Speaker and will compete in the finals in February.
Tamil teachers who trained the students were also honoured.

Dr N Panchapakesan, Founder, Chennai Sai Sankara Matrimonials Group, graced the event as the Chief Guest and encouraged students to study well, uphold values, and contribute back to Sevalaya.

R Vijaya, Head, Education and M Mariyammal, Teacher, received Teaching Excellence Awards and donated the prize money of ₹10,000 to Sevalaya.

Udayam Ram, General Secretary, Uratha Sinthanai Sangam, Poet Ko Subramanian, Joint Secretary, Uratha Sinthanai Sangam, S Rajaram (Ayan Media) and Painter Mani also participated in the event.

A Fun Learning Space for Sevalaya Students ✨

Lakshmi Devnath, scholar and writer, sponsored the Play and Learn Hub and inaugurated it through video conferencing on 2 Dec 2025.

Sukanya Venkatachalam, social worker and former General Manager, Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre.

Set up at a cost of ₹2.1 lakhs, the hub includes a variety of toys such as soft toys, building blocks, and STEM-based educational toys, benefiting thousands of underprivileged children.

After the inauguration, Lakshmi Devnath interacted with the children online and expressed her happiness at seeing them enjoy the toys. Earlier, Sevalaya Murali fondly recalled that the Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation had supported the construction of buildings at Sevalaya.

147th birth anniversary of C Rajagopalachari celebrated at Sevalaya

V S V Ramanan, former Editor of Kalki Tamil Magazine, was the Chief Guest at the Rajaji Jayanthi celebrations held on 2 Dec 2025 at Sevalaya’s Kasuva Centre, marking the 147th birth anniversary of C Rajagopalachari, the last Governor-General of India and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

He inaugurated the event by garlanding Rajaji portrait.

Ramanan said Rajaji was a key figure in Indian history, a visionary who followed Mahatma Gandhi, valued truth above all, and remained easily approachable to all.

As part of the celebrations, competitions were held for school students in Tiruvallur district, in which 374 students participated. The Chief Guest felicitated 20 students who won prizes in the competitions. Sevalaya students also presented a cultural performances.

Sevalaya Student Selected for Tamil Nadu Handball Team 🤾‍♀️🏆

V Vasanthi, student of Sevalaya, has been selected for the Tamil Nadu Handball Team at the SGFI State-level selection trials held in Coimbatore on 1 Dec 2025.

She will represent Tamil Nadu in the National-level Handball Championship to be held in Himachal Pradesh in the second week of January 2026.

Among 72 participants, she earned her place on the State team through her strong performance.

This is her fourth State-level selection - once in Netball (2022), twice in Netball and Handball (2024), and now in Handball (2025).

Sevalaya Wins Two Prestigious Awards at PRSI Chennai ✨

V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, and Thomas T Abraham, Member Executive Committee and Head Coach, Communications, received the awards at the PRSI State Awards 2025 ceremony held at the Madras Management Association on 28 Nov 2025.

Sevalaya won two awards in the NGO category for its corporate film and annual report at the event organised by the Public Relations Society of India – Chennai Chapter.

Dr N Ezhilan, MLA, Thousand Lights Constituency and Member, State Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu, was the Chief Guest. H Shankar, Managing Director, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, and C K Kumaravel, Co-founder and CMD, Naturals Salon, were the Guests of Honour.

Sevalaya Volunteers Serve with Devotion at Puttaparthi - Celebrating 100 Years of Sri Sathya Sai Baba ✨

5 students, 3 staff, 2 volunteers and a alumnus from Sevalaya's Kasuva Centre took part in "Seva Darshan" at the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ashram at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.

The students and staff offered seva at the ashram from 3 to 16 Nov 2025. They received training in AC and refrigeration, serviced air conditioners, and also assisted in the kitchen, helping with meal preparation and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout their stay.

The opportunity to serve in the ashram was facilitated and coordinated by Sai Rangasamy of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi, Besant Nagar.

Learning About Scientist Janaki Ammal ✨

Dr K Srikala Ganapathy, Adjunct Faculty at Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Centre for Global Health Research, and Founding Editor of the Science Shore e-magazine, volunteered at Sevalaya’s Kasuva Centre on 23 Nov 2025.

She conducted an engaging session via online about Ms Edavalath Kakkat Janaki Ammal, the renowned Indian scientist celebrated for her contributions to botany, cytogenetics, and plant breeding. Janaki Ammal was the first Indian woman to earn a doctorate in botany in the US and played a major role in improving India’s sugarcane varieties.

Dr Srikala also led a lively online reading session for 10 enthusiastic Std IV students. Each child took turns reading a short story aloud, while she guided them with pronunciation and fluency corrections. The session focused on building confidence in reading.

24 students and 4 staff members from Prasan Vidya Mandir, Mamandur, visited the Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre as part of the Daan Utsav celebrations.

During their visit, they donated bags of rice, stationery items and other provisions.

Community Impact by Volunteers from Saveetha College 🌱

21 students studying II year from various departments at Saveetha Engineering College, Chennai visited Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre on 21 Nov 2025 as part of their Community Impact Programme.

They helped in the banana garden by removing weeds and spent time interacting with the residents of the old age home.

1. EDUCATION - (MAHAKAVI BHARATHIYAR UNIT)

MAHAKAVI BHARATHIYAR HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL Is a Govt. recognized, unaided, Tamil medium school for classes from pre-school to higher secondary. It provides quality education 100% free. The school provides Value based education to make the children self-reliant and responsible citizens. Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahakavi Bharathiyar are imparted to children. • Free Education from Pre KG to Std XII • Free uniforms, stationary, notebooks and text books • Free transport for nursery day scholar children • Total school strength 2000 • Minimal Drop outs (2%) [Enrollment at std I, less pass out std XII] • Centum or near centum results in board exams (Std X & XII) SWAMI VIVEKANANDA LIBRARY (INCLUDING MOBILE LIBRARY) Has over 15,000 books including the complete works of Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahakavi Bharathiyar and also books on various topics like self-improvement, physical and biological sciences, IT and engineering . • Free library with a collection of 15000 books • Open to public. • In a month the mobile library reaches around 500 people in villages. 2. RURAL DEVELOPMNET (MAHATHMA GANDHI UNIT) SEVALAYA IS A GREEN ZONE. It imparts environment education to its children and implements the same in the campus. It segregates the degradable and non-degradable wastes for disposal. ORGANIC FARMING. Is implemented in the campus. We use cow dung and vermicomposting as bio-fertilizer. Sevalaya conducts regular workshops to propagate organic farming. VIOBAJI GOSHALA Shelters cows yielding milk for consumption by residents. It also shelters dry cows KASTURBA CRAFT CENTER Conducts a six month free certificate course in tailoring and craft for poor rural women. Computer classes for rural poor youth and women are also conducted MEDICAL CAMPS Sevalaya conducts regular medical camps for eye, dental and general checkup for the benefit of the residents and villagers • Green Zone • Organic Farming • Goshala • Craft center • Medical camps 3. HOMES (SWAMI VIVEKANANDA UNIT)

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA BOYS AND MOTHER TERESA GIRLS HOME Unaided, recognized as “children’s homes” under dept. of social defense, Tamil Nadu Govt. Presently these homes shelter around 175 children. These homes provide food, education, opportunities for skill development and talent promotion in an atmosphere of love and care. These children are taken care of till they become self-dependent. Many of the children are now well settled in life, pursuing careers as qualified mechanics, electricians, artisans, bank officers, nurses and software professionals. SRI RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHAMSA OLD AGE HOME Unaided, recognized by the social welfare department, Govt of Tamil Nadu It is a home for poor and destitute senior citizens. The home strives to provide dignified living in the evening of their lives. 60 senior citizens are provided shelter. INTEGRATED CAMPUS Aided, recognized by the social welfare department, Govt of Tamil Nadu. Sevalaya has been selected by the Govt of Tamil Nadu for implementation of its new program in Thiruvallur Dist, the integrated campus under which 25 destitute senior citizens and 25 destitute children are housed in one campus. • Boys home and girls home housing 150 orphan/destitute children. • Old age home housing 60 senior citizens • Integrated campus housing 25 senior citizens and 25 children in the same campus.
