Living a green life isn’t as difficult as some people make it seem. There are plenty of small, eco-friendly lifestyle changes that you can make every single day. These little green changes add up, and over time you can transform your life into the eco-friendly one you’re hoping to live.
If you’re trying to find ways to make your everyday life a little more eco-friendly, read on. We’ve got a few easy tips to help green your home and make you a little more eco-conscious
13 Tips for Greening Your Home
Recycle : One of the biggest complaints people have is that recycling is too difficult or time consuming. Make recycling easy for yourself! Set up different bins for each recyclable material in your kitchen, mud room, or garage, and have them clearly labeled. Separate out cans and bottles to take back for refund, plastics, aluminum and metals, glass, cardboard and papers, and others. Use your kitchen waste basket for food scraps only.
Buy local: Purchase local goods instead of the bulk items that require excess energy to be created, preserved, and shipped to your local area from far away.
Unplug and turn off : Whenever you aren’t using something that requires an energy source—like televisions or electronics, lights, air conditioners, or other energy-suckers—unplug them or turn them off! Having something plugged in when you aren’t using it continues to use electricity, which uses energy unnecessarily and costs you money.
Switch to fluorescent bulbs: There are plenty of well-marked, eco-friendly light bulbs in home improvement and grocery stores everywhere.
Hang out your laundry : If you have a yard, a porch, or someplace where you are able to hang your laundry, do so. You’ll save energy and money, and your clothing will last longer.
Shorten your showers: One minute of shower is about five gallons of water…so speed up the shower process and conserve!
Turn off the water when you can: Whether it’s washing your hands, washing the dishes, or brushing your teeth, turn the water off when you can.
Set up online billing and paperless bank statements : Conserve on paper and save millions of trees per year by switching to paperless statements for your bills!
Use reusable grocery bags: Many grocery stores and department stores have eco-friendly, reusable bags for shopping purchases instead of the traditional plastic bags and brown bags.
Carpool: Conserve on gas.
Walk or ride your bike: If you live close to where you need to go, save gas and get some exercise!
Use only what you need: This applies to food, soap, energy, water, and anything else you could potentially overuse.
Plant trees! : They keep the air clean, provide breeze, and they look pretty, too.
