The theme for World Drug Day 2025 is
The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.
Break the cycle.
This year’s campaign highlights the need for coordinated long- term action to break the cycle of organized crime and drug trafficking - by addressing root causes, investing in prevention
and building stronger health, education and social systems.
The war on drugs is more of a war on people especially the under-privileged.
And the stigma and discrimination add to the complex drug problem..
According to UN data, only 1 in 8 people with drug dependence have access to appropriate treatment, and the utilisation of harm reduction services which are actually life saving, is very low..
This especially true for women, LGBTlQ+ and other marginalised section of the society as the services do not cater to their needs.
One of the most important step in this direction would be to treat the underlying Primary Psychiatric symptom/s and/or disorder/s in these patients most of who take substance as self medication.

Majority of people still think dementia is a part of Normal Aging.
Dementia is a medical condition starting very early in life. It’s a Degenerative disease of the Brain.
Dementia is not just loss of memory, but includes, behaviour changes, changes in personality, changes in sleep patterns, changes in appetite and bowel and bladder habits, motor changes, mood changes, all changes which can be linked to brain.
Studies have found that patients with UNTREATED PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESSES AND SYMPTOMS ARE AT INCREASED RISK OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA LATER IN LIFE.
Alzheimer’s is one of the types of dementia.
Today is World Alzheimer’s Day and theme for 2024 is “Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer’s.”
According to the Lancet report, the dementia cases in India are expected to TRIPLE by 2050.
It’s time we as a society understand, identify the risk factors and work towards treatment of Dementia for better tomorrow.
