Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. It's the most common type of dementia and a leading cause of death.
Alzheimer's disease is caused by a combination of age-related changes in the brain, along with genetic, health, and lifestyle factors. The risk of developing Alzheimer's increases with age, but younger people may also get it. The risk is somewhat higher if a first-degree relative has the disease.
