With -guided regional proven to significantly enhance block success rates and patient safety, hands-on skill acquisition has become indispensable in contemporary anaesthetic practice.

The Department of Anaesthesiology, GIMSR, successfully conducted a Hands-On Workshop on Advanced Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anaesthesia, witnessing enthusiastic participation and strong academic engagement. The programme featured expert faculty lectures, live operating theatre demonstrations, and meticulously structured hands-on rotations across six focused workstations. These included upper and lower limb blocks, trunk and chest wall blocks, abdominal wall blocks, lumbar and sacral plexus blocks, and needling techniques using gel models. Small-group learning combined with real-time ultrasound guidance enabled meaningful faculty–participant interaction and effective practical skill enhancement.

The workshop was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane (Pro Vice-Chancellor), Dr Suryaprakash Rao (Dean), and Dr Karthik Bhogavalli (Head – Operations). The programme was led by Dr M. Prasada Rao, Organizing Chairperson, with Dr. PVS Lavanya served as Organizing Secretary and Dr Udaya Bhaskar as Organizing Joint Secretary. Dr Bh. The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, GITAM Institute of Nursing, conducted a comprehensive BCLS Module Training for the 3rd Semester B.Sc. Nursing students at the GIMSR Skill Lab are focusing on strengthening life-saving competencies and emergency preparedness. The programme was graced by Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Medical Sciences), and Dr. Suryaprakash Rao, Dean (Academics), who appreciated the department’s emphasis on skill-based learning.

Led by Dr. Divya and Dr. Swarna, the training combined theory with simulation-based hands-on practice, return demonstrations, and structured evaluations through OSCE and MCQs. With AI-driven tools projected to support up to 30–40% of perioperative decision-making workflows, the role of technology in anaesthesia is rapidly evolving, while clinical judgment remains central.

Dr. Ramya Varda, Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, GIMSR, delivered a faculty talk at the Zonal CME held at GEMS, Srikakulam, on the topic “Role of Artificial Intelligence in Perioperative Care in Anaesthesia,” attended by approximately 300 delegates.

The session highlighted how AI can enhance perioperative care through applications in hemodynamic monitoring, depth of anaesthesia assessment, perioperative risk prediction, and OT scheduling and management. Dr. Ramya emphasised that while AI serves as a powerful decision-support and co-pilot tool, the anaesthesiologist’s clinical expertise, judgment, and human touch remain irreplaceable, reinforcing a balanced, patient-centric approach to innovation.

A total of 111 OP cases were attended to, with timely transfers for those requiring advanced care. Medical assistance was extended to nearly 2,000 participants, supported by continuous sessions, administration of analgesics, and oral rehydration therapy throughout the event.

Our Bike provided on-route coverage across the 42 km stretch, ensuring rapid response and first aid accessibility at every stage. The Institute of organised a “Dementia Ambassador Expert Talk and Hands-on Training Programme” featuring experts from the Dementia India Alliance, Dr. Anu K. N (Team Lead), Dr. Priya Rose K. J (Trainer), and Ms. Hema Palakodeti (Trainer). The event was held under the leadership of Dr. Venkatesan Balu, Principal, and coordinated by Mrs. Ch. Lavanya (Associate Professor) and Mrs. T. Malathi (Assistant Professor).

The sessions focused on understanding dementia, identifying early , strategies, and caregiving approaches. Real-life testimonials from dementia added depth to the learning experience, inspiring empathy and awareness among students. 450 Families, 450 Classrooms of Real-World Learning.
has launched the (FAP) for the newly admitted 2025 batch, in accordance with NMC guidelines. FAP is an initiative designed to integrate students directly into community settings. Under this program, each has been assigned three in Rushikonda, establishing a sustained three-year engagement aimed at understanding genuine health needs and the broader social determinants of health.

As part of the inauguration, a and FAP Card Distribution Program were conducted at Rushikonda, during which 246 beneficiaries received consultations for a range of health concerns. During their periodic visits, students will collect demographic information, assess environmental and dietary conditions, conduct basic (including blood pressure and nutritional assessments), and perform examinations under faculty supervision. Each enrolled family will also receive a 50% concession on medical investigations and medicines at , in addition to existing benefits.

The Departments of and , GIMSR, observed under the theme “Overcoming Disruption — Transforming the AIDS Response”. The programme included a guest lecture by Dr Vadrevu Ravi on early diagnosis, , adherence and stigma reduction.

Community awareness activities at the OPD and Bheemunipatnam CHC were conducted for the people who were there, distribution of informational brochures and counselling, and free multidisciplinary health check-ups for people living with HIV/AIDS, 30 benefited from these services. An essay writing competition was held at KDPM High School, Peda Waltair, with prizes distributed to encourage youth engagement and community dialogue.

Dr. Sachin Yeole, Hair Transplant Surgeon from Nashik, conducted a full-day live demonstration in the operating theatre. Participants observed the complete process of hair transplantation from to of up to 1200 grafts, while each faculty member and resident personally practised 80–100 grafts.

● Botulinum Toxin Hands-on Session

Dr Harsh Shah, an Aesthetic from Mumbai, provided a practical module on Botox for fine lines and wrinkles. Every participant received hands-on exposure by administering 20 units each. This first-of-its-kind workshop at GIMSR offered transformative learning and elevated the training ecosystem.
