Did you know that India has the world’s largest burden of corneal , with over 1.1 million people awaiting transplants? To address this urgent need, the Department of , , conducted the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight Celebrations from 25th August to 8th September under guidelines.

The celebrations included impactful activities such as a play, awareness at RK Beach, competition for optometry students, and a screening & camp at MK Gold Coast. These events helped spread awareness of the importance of eye donation in reducing corneal blindness.

The valedictory function was graced by Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane (Pro VC), Dr. Suryaprakash Rao (Dean, GIMSR), and Dr. G. Sambasiva Rao (Addl. Medical Superintendent). HOD Dr. V.V.L. Narasimha Rao highlighted the importance of regular awareness initiatives, while leaders emphasized the need for training in corneal retrieval and strengthening GIMSR’s eye services.

Through such initiatives, GIMSR not only strengthens its outreach but also reinforces its academic rigor. With 100+ events celebrated annually, GIMSR continues to stand at the forefront of advancing and medical in the region.

Dr. Madhu Hasa Ghantasala (2nd year resident) secured the prize in the , while Dr. M. The Department of , , successfully organized -GENE 2025 – a on the Clinical Applications of Human Genetics on 22nd August 2025 at John Hopkins Hall, GIMSR campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from #94 delegates representing 21 colleges across and , including heads of institutions, senior , , and from GIMSR and GITAM University. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Pro Vice-Chancellor, along with Dr. Suryaprakash Rao, Dean, Dr. Sudhakar, Dean of NRIIMS & APMC Observer, and Dr. Karthik Bhogavalli, Head of Operations, GIMSR.

The scientific programme featured renowned who spoke on diverse topics such as cytogenetic analysis, insights into rare paediatric disorders, CRISPR technology, and advanced molecular techniques, alongside insightful lectures from GIMSR faculty on dysmorphism and embryogenesis. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology ( ), , successfully conducted its first-ever and , titled “National Programmes, Acts and Amendments Update 2025” and “Emergency Obstetric Drills & Basic Laparoscopy Skills.” The event drew an impressive 284 (245 regular and 39 spot registrations), including eminent speakers, senior consultants, and professors from various medical and .

The inauguration was graced by Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Pro VC, GIMSR. The scientific sessions were highly appreciated for their depth and relevance, with many delegates, especially postgraduates and young practitioners, requesting extended time for hands-on training during the workshop.

A highlight of the workshop was the use of customized models for drills, innovatively created by the department, which received admiration from all participants. Feedback also reflected strong appreciation for the , food services, and overall conduct of the program, though some delegates suggested better adherence to time allocations.

– Hands-On Workshop, in coordination with , was successfully organized by the Department of , GIMSR, under the aegis of . The full-day workshop brought together 82 students from 10 colleges and 5 institutes, along with 33 senior and , making it a remarkable academic and clinical training initiative.

The program featured an orientation session followed by 8 dedicated stations in the Ophthalmology OPD, where participants rotated to gain hands-on in advanced ophthalmic . Expert faculty guided students through practical applications of specialized equipment, providing exposure rarely available in most institutes.

The inauguration was graced by Pro VC Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane (Chief Guest) and Dean Dr. Suryaprakash Rao (Guest of Honor), who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in advancing postgraduate training. HoD Dr. VVL Narasimha Rao highlighted that GIMSR is the only institution in the region with complete diagnostic across all sub-specialties.

The for 4th-semester B.Sc Nursing students at Institute of was organised under the guidance of Dr. Venkatesan Balu, Principal, and coordinated by Mrs. T. Malathi, Assistant Professor. The program aimed to strengthen students’ and in delivering compassionate, -centered for individuals with life-limiting illnesses, focusing on interdisciplinary management of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual suffering.

On the first day, eminent speakers, including Dr. Vidya Viswanath, Dr. G. Sravani, Mrs. Pavani V, and Mrs. S. Usha, engaged students with on topics such as the history of palliative care, decision-making, non-pharmacological pain management, end-of-life care, and nursing care of the terminally ill. The second day featured hands-on skill training by the Department of -Surgical Nursing faculty, where students practiced essential clinical skills like care, care, tube management, and ascitic catheter placement.

At , in has taken a significant step forward with the inauguration of colour-coded syringe labels ( -certified) in our Operating Theatres by our Head of Operations Dr. Karthik Bhogavalli.

This milestone is supported by research from the Department of Anaesthesiology—Dr. Vamsi (Associate Professor), Dr. Lavanya (Professor), and Dr. Prasada Rao (Professor & HoD)—who conducted a nationwide survey on syringe labelling practices. Their study revealed that while 78.5% of doctors label , only 31.4% comply with ISO 26825:2008 standards.

Barriers such as time constraints, lack of materials, and insufficient training were identified, underscoring the urgent need for solutions.

By adopting colour-coded, ISO-certified syringe labels, is setting new in , excellence, and adherence to global standards. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering world-class while ensuring the highest standards of safety and in every procedure.

From adrenaline on the sports field to artistry on stage, 2025 at Institute of was a vibrant celebration of talent, teamwork, and spirit. Over two action-packed days, B.Sc. students from all batches competed in cricket, football, throwball, tug of war, sprints, relays, discus throw, shot put, chess, and showcased their through music, dance, and drama. The 4th Years dominated the arena with 800 points, while the 3rd Years shone in cultural events with 200 points. Combining scores from both segments, the 4th Year B.Sc. Nursing students emerged as the Overall Champions with a total of 850 points.

The event not only showcased the best in and expression, but also strengthened friendships and teamwork among students. Faculty and organisers commended the energy, discipline, and creativity displayed, making it an inspiring platform for personal growth beyond classrooms.
