On our recent trip to Tirupati after the Darshan we are just sitting out side the temple there was a moment of nothingness, so pure, so blissful. But my child was not able to experience it He grew restless, bored and started asking
“What should I do now?”
An immediate thought came that let me give him his story book just to fill the moment but one thought stuck me that why he is not able to sit alone of 5 mins, lot of things are happening around but he was not able to observe anything
So, I paused.
I sat with him and said,
“Let’s just sit for a minute.”
At first, he grew more restless.
He moved a bit here and there and asked now what?
That 1 min felt like an hour for him
Then I guided him on noticing the surroundings, different people, Small children tired and clinging to parents, Hoe people are chanting
Then slowly… he started noticing.
The sound of birds, birds coming and eating the food
People passing by.
and then he was able to settle down bit. Then we spoke about how Darshana happened and many more…
That one minute stretched into many minutes
No teaching.
No lecture.
Just being together.
That’s when it hit me that children never saw us in that still so they dont know about it
They don’t need us to entertain them all the time.
They need us to show them
how to feel safe in stillness.
It’s about teaching a deeper skill:
how to be with oneself without distractions
And that begins with us.
