🌼 Protecting Our Newborns: Beyond Traditional Fall Risk Tools 🌼 - Action Item after our Annual Patient Safety Webinar on 24th September on "Pediatric and Neonatal Safety"

Most hospitals use pediatric fall risk scales like the Humpty Dumpty Fall Scale, but these were never designed with the unique vulnerabilities of neonates in mind. Neonatal falls and drops often result from caregiver fatigue, sedative use, post-cesarean recovery, or unsafe environments such as co-sleeping.

That’s why we’ve created a Neonatal Fall Risk Checklist — a simple, bedside tool that complements existing risk assessments by focusing on the caregiver–infant–environment dynamic. It helps translate risk recognition into practical, preventive actions that nurses and families can use together.

✅ Prevention works best when checklists support scales. Together, they create a safety net that truly protects our newborns.
