One of my favorite, and I think underutilized, essential oils for oral health (especially the gums) is myrrh.

A systematic review of 15 studies indicates that myrrh holds promising potential as an therapy for oral health due to its potent antimicrobial properties against periodontal pathogens. While clinical trials demonstrated a significant reduction in dental plaque following two to three weeks of use, results were less conclusive regarding its ability to improve gingival inflammation in humans.

Animal and lab models suggest myrrh supports early wound healing and tissue regeneration, yet researchers caution that prolonged use may lead to irritation.

Overall, while myrrh is generally well-tolerated, further high-quality trials are necessary to establish standardized clinical protocols.

Extreme heat doesn’t just make you uncomfortable—it creates real biological stress, pushing the body into oxidative overload and cellular damage.

A recent preclinical study explored whether frankincense (carterii) EO could offer some protection at the cellular level. Subjects were given different doses mixed into their diet (ranging from 0.025% to 0.1%), while a control group received none.

At the highest dose, key antioxidant defenses surged—IgG (immune support), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), all critical for neutralizing oxidative stress.

At the lowest dose, there was a different but still meaningful effect: increases in IgM, catalase, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC)—another layer of protection against cellular damage.

The mid- to high-dose groups also showed elevated reproductive hormones (progesterone, LH, FSH), alongside improvements in liver, uterine, and ovarian tissue health.

Across all frankincense groups, two particularly interesting shifts occurred:
• Decreased adipokines (linked to fat storage and metabolic signaling)
• Modulation of ferroptosis pathways—a form of cell death driven by oxidative damage

Translation: less biochemical signaling for fat accumulation, and stronger cellular defenses against stress-induced damage.

Bottom line: While this isn’t human data yet, it points to something intriguing—frankincense EO may help the body adapt to extreme stress by boosting antioxidant systems, supporting hormone balance, and protecting cells at a fundamental level.

Uno studio clinico ha esaminato se l'olio essenziale di tè tree (2% diluito in jojoba) potesse aiutare a ridurre i sintomi scatenati dagli allergeni aerei.

1-2 gocce sono state applicate ai punti di pressione (templi, dietro orecchie, polsi), una o due volte al giorno per 3 settimane.

I risultati sono stati sorprendentemente ampi. I partecipanti hanno visto riduzioni significative sia della frequenza che della gravità di:
• Occhi acquatici
• Congestione nasale + naso che cola
• Prurito, starnutire, tosse
• Stretta al petto e catarro

Anche il respiro corto e il sibilo sono migliorati in gravità (anche se non quanto spesso si verificano).

Traduzione: una semplice routine topica può aiutare a calmare la risposta allergica del corpo in più sistemi.

Did you know one of the most stubborn bacteria linked to urinary tract infections and cystic fibrosis is Pseudomonas aeruginosa? This dark-pigment–producing microbe is incredibly resilient. It can withstand attacks from the body’s own defenses and often develops resistance to antibiotics—making infections difficult to treat and slow to resolve.

That’s why this research caught my attention. A study looked at seven essential oils—clove bud, cinnamon bark, davana, thyme, fennel, garlic, and palmarosa—to see how they performed against P. aeruginosa. The standout oils? Cinnamon, garlic, and thyme.

These three demonstrated significant activity against the bacteria, including drug-resistant strains. Even more compelling, they didn’t just inhibit growth—they reduced the bacteria’s virulence (its ability to cause harm) and made it more susceptible to antibiotics.

In other words, they helped weaken a very tough opponent. This highlights their potential role as supportive tools—especially when we’re facing microbes that are increasingly resistant to conventional therapies.
