Aviano | An environment that is open to change!

Joy Center is a place where development can progress optimally. We need the parent and the child to feel calm, to feel ready to have real change occur. The way we do that is through play because that is the way that you connect with children and through the play we embed the different goals related to skill acquisition within that frame. It feels good, therapy has to feel good or the child would not change. JC is a place for real support to the parents and also to really help the parents and the child reconnect in a positive way.

What’s important to hold in mind is that every moment matters in a child's development. At a root of the approach is the emotion. Emotion is a very powerful part of development to focus on because it engages the child in their play. Many children that have difficulties in development struggle with their ability to feel calm in their body and their ability to feel comfortable when they have strong feelings. Here at Joy Center we support the child to feel emotionally safe, secure and competent; with that foundation we can then bring in more skills acquisition for the child. The most powerful element that we use to support improving the developmental trajectory are relationships. The approach at JC is to include the parent in the process so they can being to feel what we’re doing here at JC, and so that they may understand that how they interact, how they respond can make a big impact on the child’s unfolding development or if the child has some vulnerabilities in their development. JC is a place where you can come and feel supported in your journey as a parent to your child. Because we are developmental specialists we know how to look at the total development of the child and see if there are possible vulnerabilities that can impact speech and language development, cognitive learning capacity, or most importantly know how to manage strong feelings. We are a place that supports parents knowing how to do that and how to reconnect with their children in a positive way. Our goal is to help the parent and the child to feel calm and to feel ready to have change occur. The way we do that is through play because that is the way that you connect with children. It is through play that we embed the different goals related to skill acquisition within that frame. It feels good, therapy has to feel good for change to occur.
