Our Story
With a data base of over four thousand nine hundred patients to date, Total Rehab Ltd. has become a household name in and around St. Ann. Known for its relaxing ambiance, caring and resourceful staff, Total Rehab Ltd. is the place for physical rehabilitation and home health care supplies. It came into being October 18, 1994 arising out of the need for physiotherapist Ivy Campbell to create employment for herself after relocating from Montego Bay. It became apparent that there was a need for crutches for many of the patients seen. In 1995 Total Rehab started providing crutches. In response to requests to obtain items for patient care that were not easily available, we took on the challenge to source and provide them. From an initial stock of twelve mahoe crutches purchased from Mona Rehab, now Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre, our inventory has expanded over the years to include all types of mobility aids and replacement parts, items for home care such as commodes, bed pans, raised toilet seats donut cushions, egg crate mattresses, heating pads, braces and supports, foot care products and small exercise equipment. Compression stockings for circulation accounts for the largest percentage of our stock. Regardless of the size or needs of an individual, we are usually able to provide a solution in this area. As a small family-owned business, Total Rehab is usually operated by a small staff. Over the years, several young persons have received training in front desk operations and sales and it has been the training ground for physiotherapy students in the summer. Our qualified physiotherapist with over thirty years experience also offers ante-natal (Lamaze) classes and incorporates ergonomic assessments and recommendations as part of our treatment programmes. Beyond the doors at 66 Main Street St. Ann’s Bay, the community benefits from back care sessions, lectures on exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, career talks in high schools and home physiotherapy in rural communities. In keeping with the focus of the WCPT World Confederation of Physical Therapists “Fit to take part”, this year we introduced a new service - Fitness at any age. Emphasis is on encouraging exercise and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. Individuals can get BMI assessments, exercise prescriptions, advice on diet and fat loss monitoring for those on weight loss programmes. As we enter our twenty-first year, we wish to thank all our supporters over the years; our referring doctors, our employees, patients, suppliers, colleagues, friends, family and well wishers. We renew our commitment to our lifelong goal of restoring function and improving the quality of life. Hitherto has the Lord helped us. To God be the glory.
