DIY Beauty: Rose Cacao Exfoliating Mask

This mask gently exfoliates, deeply hydrates, and nourishes. It also infuses your skin with antioxidants. What more could you want in a cleanser? This is the ultimate self-care treat for your skin!
Ingredients

1 tbsp raw cacao powder

2 tbsp organic rolled oats

3 tbsp jojoba oil

1 tbsp rose hip seed oil

20 drops of Rose Essential oil or Geranium (if rose is not in your budget)

2-ounce jar

Instructions

Place the oat and cacao in a small blender or spice grinder and pulse or grind. You want just to break up the rolled oats but don’t over-process because you don’t want a fine powder.

Place in a small bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Stir well.

Transfer to a jar.

To use: 2 or 3 times a week, massage a generous amount of the product into your skin. Once you’ve massaged for a full minute, rinse with warm water and continue your skincare routine as usual. For storage, please keep it in the fridge, as you are not using a preservative. We recommend making a small jar to make it fresh every couple of weeks!

Mindfulness: New Month, New Intentions

December, 2023. WE MADE IT.
What. A. Year. I think we all deserve a round of applause / hug / month off.

As unexpected, challenging & disruptive as this year has been, 2023 has also been one of the most transformative years of my life.

A friend asked me last night what the theme of 2023 has been for me, and I said: creating the life I truly, deeply want—not think I want. Everything that I thought was important (but actually wasn’t) faded away, revealing the values and qualities that I hold near & dear.

“Please be gentle with your body.
It loves you more than anyone or anything in the world.
It fixes every cut, every wound, every broken bone,
And it fights off so many illnesses,
Sometimes, without you even knowing.
Even when you punish it,
It is still there for you,
Struggling to keep you alive,

Let’s be real. Sometimes, we get so caught up in the intensity of our emotions that we lose sight of the bigger picture. We forget who we are and what we’re capable of.

It’s understandable—when you get hit with emotions that remind you of traumatic experiences, it’s easy to believe that you’re destined to make the same mistakes over and over again. It feels like you’re stuck in an unbreakable cycle. All of a sudden, you’re no longer experiencing the present moment—you’re reliving your past.

Mentally, you’re right back at the heart of the storm that you’ve been trying to run away from. Your heart starts beating faster, your mind goes blank, and you subconsciously prepare yourself for the same outcome that you’ve been trying to avoid. You stop working towards the ideal outcome that you want, and start preparing yourself for the worst case scenario that you want to avoid.

It happens. And I don’t think it’s something to blame yourself for, but rather something to understand and push back against.

You are not your intrusive thoughts. You are not your deepest fears. You are not your most traumatic experiences. You are a human being, experiencing this present moment, with the ability to make different choices. You can’t control everything, but you can decide what you do with the present moment.
