AHF Jamaica

AHF Jamaica AHF is the largest global HIV/AIDS nonprofit providing services and advocacy in over 40 countries.

In late October 2013, AHF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jamaican Ministry of Health that officially enabled the nonprofit to provide care to Jamaicans living with HIV as the country’s national HIV partner. AHF Jamaica’s work began soon after in the island’s Western Region, where AHF Jamaica partnered in providing care for 1,518 people from Montego Bay’s Cornwall Regional Hospital,

1,313 people from the MoBay Type 5 Clinic, and 994 clients at the Savanna-La-Mar Hospital in Savanna-La Mar, which is the chief town in the island’s capital of Westmoreland Parish. AHF Jamaica is also partnering with a well-respected NGO in Jamaica to provide care for HIV+ patients in the NGO’s facilities in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.

During COVID, access to vaccines was not equal for everyone.
Some countries secured doses from the start, while others had to wait.
That difference had real consequences: more than 1 million deaths in 2021 could have been prevented with more equitable access.
Latin America and the Caribbean jointly accounted over 25% of the total worldwide COVID-19 deaths (1.8 million people combined as of early 2025).
Today, rules for the next pandemic are being negotiated.
The system works like this: countries share information about viruses, which allows vaccines and treatments to be developed.
But there is not always an obligation to share those benefits.
That is the problem.
If clear rules are not established, access will again depend on who can pay more and who cannot.
The next pandemic cannot have a VIP lane.
EU: Stop blocking health equity.

Let’s talk about something most people overlook… the window period.

You can get tested and still show a negative result, even if an infection is there. That’s because your body may not have produced enough markers yet for the test to detect it.

So what does that mean for you?

It means timing matters.
It means follow-up testing matters.
And it definitely means protecting yourself and your partner still matters.

Don’t guess. Know your status.

This is more than just a mural. It’s a statement.

Through our Girls Act initiative, we’ve transformed a wall into a space that reflects strength, resilience, and the power of young boys and girls to create change.

Every element tells a story. From education and health to advocacy and emotional wellbeing, this mural brings our mission to life while sparking real conversations in the community.

We’re proud to stand with and young men and women, reminding them that their voices matter, their futures are bright, and they are never alone.

Because when young people are empowered, entire communities rise.

Advocacy in action.

AHF Jamaica delivered letters to diplomatic missions in Kingston calling for stronger health equity provisions in the WHO Pandemic Agreement.

The decisions being made now will determine whether countries like Jamaica have fair access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments in future pandemics.

The world cannot repeat the inequalities we saw during COVID-19.

💉 The goal of the WHO Pandemic Agreement is to prevent the inequalities the world saw during COVID-19.

The PABS Annex must guarantee equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments during future health emergencies—not months or years later.

Through the campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, advocates are calling on EU leaders, especially and , to support binding benefit-sharing rules in the Annex.

No equity, no agreement.

🤝 A key principle in the WHO Pandemic Agreement negotiations: cooperation, not extraction.

Countries around the world share pathogen samples and scientific data that help develop vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments.

But when these discoveries lead to lifesaving tools, the benefits must also be shared fairly.

Through the campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, advocates are calling on EU leaders, especially and , to support binding benefit-sharing rules in the Annex.

🌍 The rules for responding to the next pandemic are being negotiated right now.

The WHO Pandemic Agreement was adopted in 2025, but it cannot move forward until the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) Annex is finalized. This annex will determine how pathogen samples are shared and how the benefits derived from them—such as vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments—are distributed.

Through our campaign EU: Stop Blocking Health Equity, we call on European leaders—especially and —to support binding equity provisions so lifesaving tools are shared fairly in future global health emergencies.

What is decided now will shape pandemic response for a generation.

We thank , , and , along with , , , , , , and many Global South partners pushing for binding equity rules.
