One of the most beautiful things about life is our ability to connect with each other as humans; our humanity! .
We naturally feel this loving connection during the good times, but this feeling might be absent during difficult times.
However, let’s remember that even if our loved ones struggle with problematic drug use, we should try to build and maintain this ‘human’ connection.
So, let’s be more mindful of how we treat them, speak to them and above all to do try to support them along their journey to recovery.

Alcohol is the most widely used drug in Jamaica. It is largely accepted, misunderstood and not seen as a drug that can cause significant damage to youth, overall health and road safety.

Effective drug education is important because young people are faced with many influences to use both licit and illicit drugs. Education can play a counterbalancing role in shaping a normative culture of safety, moderation, and informed decision making.

Many people don't understand why or how others become addicted to drugs.⁣

They may mistakenly think that those who use drugs lack moral principles or willpower and that they can stop their drug use by simply making a choice.⁣

In reality, drug addiction is a brain disease, and quitting takes more than good intentions or a strong will.⁣

Drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting hard, even for those who want to.⁣

This is why it is important for families to understand the facts about drug addiction. It can help them to better cope with the situation and provide appropriate support for problematic substance users.⁣
