On January 2, 2026, an account using the name “Nicky Alexia,” which appears to be affiliated with recent clients of JM Funeral Home, made a malicious and biased post on Facebook regarding a prior business relationship. As JM Funeral Home is unable to respond directly on that platform, this statement serves as the formal response to address the situation and clarify the facts.
JM Funeral Home acknowledges the grief and emotional distress the family is experiencing during this difficult time.
Firstly, the individual making the public statements was not the person who initiated the contractual agreement with JM Funeral Home, nor was that individual designated to manage or give binding instructions regarding the funeral arrangements. All communications, authorisations, and instructions were conducted through the identified and authorised family representative at the relevant times, and all actions taken by JM Funeral Home were based strictly on those instructions.
JM Funeral Home was not open on New Year’s Eve nor on New Year’s Day, both being public holidays. This was communicated in advance to the authorised family representative and was acknowledged. Additionally, the day prior to the holiday was given off to staff to allow adequate preparation for the holiday period. While other businesses may have remained open, JM Funeral Home’s closure was clearly communicated beforehand.
With respect to payments, although funds were reportedly sent via remittance services, JM Funeral Home initially acted in good faith to facilitate the family’s needs based on instructions received. However, once the business relationship was formally terminated and a request was made for the release of the remains, it became necessary for the funds to be received in hand, notwithstanding proof of remittance. This measure was required to ensure that funds could not be recalled after the release of the body. Termination of services differs from a continuing arrangement, and appropriate safeguards must therefore apply.
Additionally, the requested release fell on the day prior to New Year’s Day, which had already been communicated as a non-operational period. The funds were sent on New Year’s Day, a public holiday during which the office was officially closed. As a result, the release could not be facilitated until the next business day, when funds could be properly received and processed.
Regarding the request for a breakdown of costs, it is important to clarify that the services discussed were custom-curated based on the family’s specific requests and preferences. These arrangements did not constitute a standard or pre-set package with fixed pricing. Each service differs depending on the level of customisation, selections made, and services requested. As such, a generalised package breakdown could not be provided in advance in the manner suggested.
Assertions questioning professionalism are unfounded. Throughout the matter, communication was maintained respectfully with the authorised representative. At no time did JM Funeral Home attempt to prevent the family from seeking services elsewhere. That decision has always remained entirely within the family’s discretion.
All actions taken were guided by professional standards, good faith, and ethical obligations, and not by any intent to delay or cause distress to a grieving family. JM Funeral Home remains committed to conducting its services with integrity, transparency, and respect.
