Introducing our new ‘Able World’ tee 🌏❤️🙌

It’s taken some time (and courage!) to hand-draw the designs in our latest collection, but I’ve really enjoyed the creative process feeling more organic, more authentic.

I know graphic design like the back of my hand, but illustration is a whole new skill set that I’ve been wanting to develop for a long time. Here's to trying new things ✨

We’re taking a leaf 😉 from the natural environment as inspiration for our new Summer Safari collection 🍃

Innate ability is unique and exists within us all, and it takes many forms 🧠✨💪🏻 we’ve all got something special to offer this world, embrace it and be proud of who you are!

Seeing the girls next to one another for these photos yesterday was such a reminder of how fast time goes! The days and weeks have absolutely flown by this year, the kids are growing up so fast and our days busier than ever.

It’s now been almost three months since Eleanor had her hemispherectomy, and to see how well she’s doing now, you wouldn’t believe she’s functioning with just the left side of her brain! It’s honestly insane, we’re so proud of Eleanor and so grateful that she’s made a full recovery ❤️

So much has happened recently, it’s been enough just to keep up! Most notably, we spent some time in Sydney last month for a NAPA therapy intensive. It was a crazy kind of bootcamp where Eleanor was pushed well outside of her comfort zone daily, five days a week for three whole weeks. There’s a bit to that though, so I’ll save that for a follow up post 😄 stay tuned!

Eleanor is home! 🏡🌈 She was discharged from hospital Monday night after a long day of waiting and campaigning by Sarah and it’s so nice to have them both home ❤️

Eleanor, Sarah and myself all tested positive for covid over the weekend, so despite the iso circumstances, it feels so good to be living together under the one roof again.

As much as Eleanor rocked the rockstar look with half a head of hair, last night we decided to shave her head for a fresh start! Besides developing an actual dreadlock, her new look is in a way symbolic of Eleanor’s next chapter, and she looks just as (if not more) beautiful than before 🥰 we will miss her springy locks though!

It’s become so apparent to us that the neuroplastocity of Eleanor’s brain started making up for the damage in the right side of her brain from birth. It’s two weeks today that Eleanor had her hemispherectomy and it’s like she hasn’t skipped a beat. In fact she seems brighter, more present and able to repeat and speak new words like never before.

To our surprise, she still has function with the left side of her body with no paralysis – which is remarkable since the left side of our body is controlled by the right side of our brain, which Eleanor no longer has any connection to… this girl is truly incredible. It’s still early days and she still has rehab to get through next week, then ongoing therapies, but she is off to a rocket start!

Thanks again to everyone who supported us over the past few weeks, we couldn’t have done it without you 🙏

And thank you to those who placed orders with us recently, we’re so excited for you to receive your tees and hoodies and share the Able message! 🌏❤️🙌 The courier collected all orders from the week of Eleanor’s surgery this morning, so keep an eye out for your delivery in the coming days!

If you’ve followed the Able Cause journey for a while, you’ll already know that it all started out of love for our daughter Eleanor. Born with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, hydrocephalus and vision impairment Eleanor has faced and overcome a lot of challenges to become the brave, clever and cheeky girl that she is today.

Last week, Eleanor had surgery for a hemispherectomy to disconnect the (epilepsy affected) right side of her brain from her left, with the ultimate goal of preventing seizures from interfering with her development. The surgery itself was a great success, but her recovery has not been without complications. For anyone who’s followed her recovery on Eleanor's TTTS Journey you’ll agree it’s been a bumpy ride.

It’s day seven today, we are both relieved and elated to say that she is currently stable and showing us just how incredible she is. She’s talking again (with new words!), eating cake, drinking her bottles and wanting to sit up and engage with her surroundings again. A huge thank you to incredible music therapist Daisy, who performed one of Eleanor’s favourite songs today by her bed! Truly, what a moment in time ❤️

Sarah and I are so wholly grateful for the support Eleanor and our family have received from the amazing people around us – from friends and family, to not strange-at-all strangers, school and daycare… there is so much love and support in the community surrounding us and it means the world. Thank you so much!

We are all capable of more than we know ✨

We are all Able 🌏❤️🙌🏼

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness month 💚

What I would like to share with you as a father of a child with CP, is that Eleanor’s diagnosis has never, and will never define her. Her spirit is unstoppable ✨ I know there are many more parents out there who will say the same about their 🙌🏼

Eleanor has achieved so much more than her prognosis at birth as a 31 weeker and survivor of twin to twin transfusion syndrome, alongside her sister Ava.

On Sunday, Eleanor took her first steps in a trial walker all by herself! This has been made possible by all of the amazing people and supports in Eleanor’s life, but of course a LOT of her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn new skills. She is so incredible and so so loved. ❤️

Sarah and I are so proud to see her flourish and can’t wait to see what else she’s capable of!

Ability looks different for all people - but the definition is the same:

‘the physical or mental power or skill needed to do something’ ✨

No two people are the same, we each have our set of traits that define us as individuals.

Able Cause is about celebrating our differences and acknowledging that at the core of our ability lies strength of character, courage, determination and human spirit.

‘Success is not measured by the position one has reached in life, rather by the obstacles one overcomes while trying to succeed’.

Yesterday, Ollie learned how to ride a skateboard for the second time in his life and was in his element. He stacked it, hurt himself but got up and tried again. 🛹

Last week, Eleanor learnt how to put two words together and used her legs to propel herself over a therapy ball and didn’t want to stop! 💪

They both used their natural ability to learn something entirely new about themselves and in our eyes they are equally as remarkable as achievements! ❤️

We are all Able. Able of change. Able of growth. Able to inspire ✨
