Medi Plus, Tokyo Office • Capital City Relocation

As the events of 2020 unfolded, it was shown that the traditional in-person workplace was no longer the norm. Medi Plus also embraced the remote work model for the employee’s choice of work space. Although remote work is very convenient for employees, and most tasks can be done with just an internet connection, Face-to-face meetings are still equally important to create better solutions.
We moved our office to Azabu Juban for a more comfortable working environment.

The new office location is in the Minato city, Azabu-Juban area. It is a very centralized area with many international residents being in close proximity to many Foreign Embassies. The area also hosts many non-Japanese hard to find food fare shops such as American Southern Soul food, New York style Bagels, and Classic American Pies.

In a recent brainstorming session, we were able to come up with an excellent solution in our new environment. That will be integrated into our SRS software as an upcoming significant feature upgrade.

Medi Plus, Kyoto Office • West Japan Expansion

We opened a new office in Kyoto! Medi Plus has expanded very rapidly this past year servicing many new Hospitals with our SRS system in the western area of Japan. In order to respond to service requests in the western region in a more timely manner we opened a new office, which is also walking distance to the historic landmark Kyoto Imperial Palace.

Recently we held our first quarter meeting at the new office with all team members coming in to also help finish setting up the new office workstations and SRS test systems. The new nontraditional office setting is actually in a renovated very traditional Japanese house. It is an interesting contrast of Medi Plus being a software tech company, with the backdrop esthetic of old world Japan.

As April is the new business year in Japan, we also have welcomed some new team members to Medi Plus, and celebrated a welcome dinner. The restaurant served mainly traditional Japanese fare, but this establishment also has 40 craft beers on tap, including a delicious Yuzu citrus beer to enjoy the end of our Kyoto meeting.

Sanin Rosai Hospital, Tottori • Embedded Wall Installation

Every installation of our SRS software and hardware components is different. We have different cart configurations, or we have stand alone cases many times. The best scenario for our installation is when it is a brand new operation room designed with our setup space embedded in the wall. In our recent installation in the Osaka Red Cross Hospital, the case was these were far well established operation rooms, and we had to work around all the existing equipment. In this instance of the Sanin Rosai Hospital we came into a blank canvas of a room. This can be one of the easier setups because the room was designed to house our equipment specs from day one.

The Sanin Rosai Hospital in Yonago Tottori, was an already established hospital location, but a whole new wing was built so it would be able to run with the latest technology. The new wing rooms were designed around the equipment, not the other way around. This new hospital wing would be opening in a week, but the building was still bare, so in an almost magical flurry of the most organized chaos, dozens of different contractors were doing simultaneous installs for every aspect and part of the hospital.

For our team, we had a week to get everything installed so the rest of the operations rooms could be set up and ready to be an active room within days of completion, so nothing could go wrong. Day 1, we separated all the components to their designated rooms and we began installation of the computer rack setup. On day two when we were installing the cameras and monitors, we noticed one room was missing the 4k camera. A slight panic set in even though it was checked off the list, we could not find it. After 30 minutes we came to remember, this one camera was going to be taken from the old hospital wing and brought over to the new room.

With that one hiccup, everything else for the rest of the week went on without incident, and we were able to get all the manual setup done a day ahead of schedule. Unfortunately the free day we gained had heavy rain all day so any chance of sightseeing the area was nixed.

Osaka Red Cross • Major Install pt2

This install took more than 2 weeks to deploy with 16 rooms to set up. Because we used independent cart units for the operation rooms, the amount of extra steps and pieces for this deploy were a bit overwhelming. As each unit got constructed, slowly the chaos became a manageable obstacle. The only major complaint would be in the clean up process, as many bits of Styrofoam littered the staging area and our vacuum cleaner decided to quit, leaving us to sweep every little backbreaking bit with a small broom and dustpan.

Osaka Red Cross hospital major install

With the pandemic disrupting all facets of life in 2020, major installs of your SRS systems had been delayed, and procurement of parts due to supply chain disruption was a challenge leading up to this major installation at the Osaka Red Cross hospital.

In total we had 16 operation rooms with all company members as an all hands install. For the Osaka Red Cross hospital, we had to work around already fully packed rooms. For this installation mobile carts with the computers and monitors were used, making it easier for placing them wherever they are needed when operations are in session.

Even though we had 16 rooms to install, with so many moving parts to the logistics puzzle, overall, everything for the Osaka Red Cross hospital went smoothly.
