Vaccination for your dog and cat
In Japan we usually recommend rabies and a combined vaccine annually for dogs and a
combined vaccine annually for cats.
We don't recommend to get rabies and a combined vaiccine on the same day.
If your dog gets rabies first, a combined vaccine should be given more than 7 days apart from
rabies.
If your dog gets a combined vaccine first, rabies should be administered more than a month apart from that combined vaccine.
After getting a shot, your dog or cat needs to avoid hard exercise and bathing for a few days.
If you notice something wrong, such as local swelling at injection site, swelling of his/her face,
poor appetite, transient fever or lethargy and you feel something is wrong, please call us or bring him/her to us.
A small number of the cases of anaphylactic shock and death have been reported,
but those are extremely rare. And usually those severe reactions occur shortly after injection,
like within 30 minutes or an hour.
The main sign of anaphylactic shock is that swelling of his/her face, pallor of oral mucous membrane, feeling dizzy and lethargy.
So if you live at a distance from our animal hospital, we recommend to stay in the waiting room or in a parking lot for a while.
Even after you get back home, if you feel something is wrong, please call and let us know even at night.
