Hypertension
Also referred to as an increase in blood pressure or high blood pressure is a long life condition that develops majorly as people grow old.
In this condition, the heart pumps blood with greater force than normal.
CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION.
In about 90% of cases, the cause is usually unknown. This is referred to as primary, idiopathic or essential hypertension.
However, there are factors that have shown to cause hypertension that are either controllable or uncontrollable.
Uncontrollable factors.
AGE
Older people are at a higher risk of getting hypertension.
GENETICS
People with a family history of hypertension condition in their lineage are likely to have it since it can be passed genetically.
Controllable factors
- Smoking
- Alcohol consumption
- Stress
- Obesity
- Use of excess salt
- Consuming too much fat
- Lack of exercise
- Other diseases. Including Kidney disease , diabetes .etc.
Signs and Symptoms.
In many cases hypertension doesn't present symptoms meaning one may be suffering the condition but not knowledgeable.
In some cases hypertension has shown to cause; headache, dizziness and visual disturbance.
CONTROL AND PREVENTION.
1. LIFESTYLE CHANGES
- exercise regularly
- avoid processed food
- reduce/stop alcohol consumption
- preference to healthy diet with less salt and fat
- drink a lot of water
- eating more greens and fruits.
2. If a person has already been diagnosed with hypertension, it is important to take the prescribed medication and advice by a licensed practitioner.
3. It is important to regularly check your blood pressure.
