YOUTH AFYA KENYA is an organization that's focussing on pressing issues that we as a society should address- Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) and the promotion of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3). As a nation, it is our collective responsibility to eradicate FGM and make sure that every female has access to quality healthcare services.
The practice of FGM is a violation of the basic human rights of girls and women and has serious short-term and long-term physical and psychological consequences. The procedure involves the partial or total removal of female genitalia, which leads to severe pain, trauma, infections, and often leads to infertility.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 200 million women and girls worldwide have undergone FGM, and three million girls are at risk of undergoing the procedure every year. The situation is more alarming in many African nations. Unfortunately, despite numerous efforts to eradicate FGM, the practice persists in many parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
As part of the international community, we should come together to promote SDG 3. This goal aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people of all ages. Therefore, it is our moral obligation to fight FGM and ensure that every female has access to health services that cater to their physical, mental, and reproductive health.
Health is a fundamental human right, and every girl and woman deserves to have access to quality health care services. We must work towards ending FGM and all forms of gender-based violence and ensure that every female has access to the highest attainable standard of health.
We urge every one of us to come together and join hands to eradicate FGM and promote SDG 3. We need to raise awareness, encourage dialogue and support communities in making the necessary cultural and social changes. By working together, we can create a future where girls and women can grow and thrive.
