RECOMMEND HAY FEEDING RATIO FOR FAIRY COWS (Tamia Feeds Guide) ππΎ
For healthy milk production and good body condition, feed hay in the right proportion depending on the cowβs weight and production stage.
General Rule
- A dairy cow should eat 2β3% of her body weight in dry matter per day.
Practical Hay Ratio
For an average dairy cow (400β500 kg):
- Hay: 8β12 kg per day
- This equals about 1 bale (15β20 kg) per cow per day, depending on bale size and hay quality.
When Feeding Hay with Other Feeds
If you are combining hay with concentrates or silage:
- Hay: 60β70%
- Concentrates / supplements: 30β40%
Example per day:
- Hay: 8β10 kg
- Dairy meal / supplements: 4β6 kg
- Clean water: Always free access
- Mineral lick: Available at all times
Important Tips from Tamia Feeds
β Use clean, dry, leafy hay (no mould or dust)
β Lactating cows need more feed than dry cows
β Poor-quality hay = higher quantity needed
β Always adjust feed based on milk yield and body condition
